No you really don't, but I'm not predicting a win for them...........you are really, really good, they are just bigger, and stronger and faster...promise. Just like 1975.

Gotta admit, I lost track of the thread, but now I should go back to before I was born?

It’s not. He’s trolling thinking he’ll convince us we’re rivals and this our biggest game of the year. Fact is, if we win, the game will be quickly forgotten about. If we lose, we will be very concerned with where we are but still will care little about Arky State. They’re a schedule filler. We respond to him because he won’t go away and there’s not much us to talk about.

Good because you are going to be very, very happy going forward.

Be sure to watch the ASU Nebraska game this Saturday, and ASU has another nationally televised game on a Tuesday night this year, and many more to follow.

Looks like both parties have decided that there is money to be made in creating the Boise of the South..

Sorry it was not Memphis but what can I say, it just wasn't. Maybe you can be the next Arkansas State.

You are" tiger high" to them, nothing will ever change that
, the only thing different is they ARE the best team in Arkansas, and have been for a while, and they are talented enough to do what you are doing. They are more than talented enough to beat you.

The thing that is different about you, even though your arrogance will not allow yourself to acknowledge this is a real rivalry, which has gotten you beat a lot in this series, is you are really good, and the best team in Tennessee, and have been for a while.

Me thinks the series record (29-23-5, edge Memphis) is a bit misleading. From 1914-1936, you went 16-6-3 against West Tennessee Teachers College. The modern era of college football is widely seen as beginning after the end of WWII.

So throw out the Dark Ages and the series stands at 23-8-4, edge Memphis, since 1947. You keep speaking of all the recent tragedies that kept ASU from reaching Boise of the South status. Your 2 recent wins occurred during our own recent tragedy - the Larry Porter experiment -leading to the first year of Justin Fuente, starting a program from scratch. You capitalized on that. Congrats.

Over the past 30 years, the series stands at 13-3-1, edge Memphis.

“Maybe Memphis can be the next Arkansas State”. You said that. Don’t blame Gus and ESPN.

Apologies to all ASU lurkers. No disrespect to your school at all. I have no problem with this series. It’s a relatively close regional OOC game. Should be fun. The problem is with this passive aggressive troll that you somehow managed to let escape. This is assuming you actually claim him. I have my doubts.

(01-13-2012 10:56 AM)Seminole Indian Wrote:  IMO there is a chance, but probably only a small one, and the window of opportunity if it has not closed, is closing fast.

There are lots of reasons, but one of the biggest is that The University of Memphis is in Memphis and ASU is in Jonesboro, and Jonesboro is probably close to becoming almost the perfect college town. Memphis is about as far away from being perfect in that regard as you can get.
Still saying that while it is a lot bigger, Jonesboro is an even more perfect college town now than a decade ago, -- and every recruit comments on the fact every business has Red Wolves painted on their window, and THEIR facilities are as good as any they have seen, and THEIR stadium is beautiful, and the "their" is the key. It is ALL theirs, and on their campus and not the towns, somewhere in town.

Like Miami, or most cities, Memphis is not a college town, and is about as far away from being perfect in that regard as you can get. Aside from the fact you have to be a town, not a city, to be a perfect college town, most people should know more about the college in the town, than the town, and be on the campus when they are at a sporting event.

"There's nothing quite like a college football town. Professional sports teams occupy the country's bigger cities, usually vying for attention in a crowded market. But college football is different.".

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2641...he-country

I expect they will be even closer to perfect at the end of this decade.

I thought for some reason your list of top 10 towns was supposed to have Jonesboro in it. I didn't find it, so I looked for another list of the top 100 college towns. Memphis is at #29, but I don't see Jonesboro on the list. Now, I fully understand anyone can put together a list and put it online... So take it for what it is worth.

Here's the list from 2018:
https://herosports.com/college-football/...tdown-cncn

I can't believe they missed out on Jonesboro.

Quote:ECONOMY
In 2012, Kiplinger's Personal Finance ranked Jonesboro ninth of the "10 Best Cities for Cheapskates".

9th out of 19,495 US cities; very impressive.

Quote:THE MALL AT TURTLE CREEK
Opened in 2006, is the largest mall in northeast Arkansas. It was the only enclosed mall opened in the United States that year. On March 29, 2020, much of the mall was destroyed during an EF-3 tornado. Before the opening of the mall, Indian Mall was the primary shopping destination in northeast Arkansas. In 2012, Indian Mall, named for the former mascot of Arkansas State University, was demolished. The only store to remain in its original location was Sears.

Quote:Sears Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Oct. 15, 2018

Everything I read about it makes me want to move there. I'm checking Craigslist for used trailers as we speak.

To tell you the truth, the only thing Jonesboro is good for anymore is that it is 2 hours closer to the White River, Spring River, Mountain View, etc. That's the only reason I would consider moving there. It would be still convenient to drive to Memphis for football and basketball games. But you could be that much closer to God's country. But as far as life and entertainment amenities, it's a pretender.
Good hospital, though.

Sorry off the top of my head I don't remember him.

As far as how many Razorback fans there are vs A-State fans, and where in Arkansas IMO it really does not matter.

It is a FACT that A-States football team has been considered the best in Arkansas multiple times the last decade and was officially declared the best under the old BCS format at least twice, the past decade.

The consensus has been they have had the better team the last two years.

Looking forward to a great game in Memphis when the best teams in both states meet.

Jim Nagy: NT Forrest Merrill is the strongest IDL we’ve seen so far in ‘21 draft class. Impressive handing double-teams vs Georgia’s future NFL inside trio. Plays with knock-back & rarely gives ground. There’s a role for dudes like Merrill at next level.

FYI, He was even more impressive against Alabama (ask Saban) , and Memphis fans are going to be impressed with him and a lot of other players on their team.......PROMISE. Make that really impressed.

Not blaming just don't want to take credit for their "Boise of the South", or the ESPN love when Malzahn signed on with a promise to stay ans produce annual top 25 teams, or even their current AD's "when" not "if" promise to be the G5 Representative, "sooner" not "later".

Like i posted on the Razorback board getting Memphis on their schedule for eighth games this coming decade is far bigger for them when it comes to achieving their goal of being the best G5 than playing the Razorbacks.

Don't have to talk about goals eight years ago, because Memphis has opened the door for them to be what they say they want to be, and their HC has said they had the talent to be the last four years, starting the first game this year, and it is a door the Razorbacks could not open.

Will also predict when the year is over Memphis fans will say A-States defensive front was the most physically intimidating front they played because they are 3-4 deep with
guys that can beat you up.

Remember I game you an example above, of their 5th team NG that was one of the best DL's coming out of HS, and who was physical and nasty when he did get on the field for then. The guys ahead of him are even more so.

and again i want to make it as simple as possible, their coaches expectation going into in this game is they are going to win the war in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and might dominate.

The why is that they are going to have the bigger, stronger, meaner, nastier, older, more experienced players, to more than compensate for your athleticism --which their coaches are not conceding you have an advantage, in the trenches.

That is their path to VICTORY in this game.

As far as the other positions, while they might end-up with some young players in the secondary, if the transfers take some time to get on board, but they feel strongly their skill players are as fast and athletic as any in G5.

Just wanted to drop in and say that Seminole is a troll who posts more on Razorback boards than anywhere. Ignore him. Really sad this game is affected by the pandemic. I live on the Arkansas side of the bridge and was looking forward to the 10 minute trip and tailgating.

I was really happy to see the success Memphis had last year and I shared your frustration with the Temple call- worst one all year. I don't concede this game though which is why they play them. I will say historically we don't show up in P5 games and until recently OOC games.

Good luck and I hope this game goes off without a hitch.
