Not saying Penny doesn't have the ability but he really has something to prove this coming year.

The teams effort was the best I’ve seen since maybe the Finch days. Last year was much more enjoyable to watch than any in the last 25 years, save Cal’s last 4.5 (from when Sean Banks left the team).

Were we watching the same team? It was some terrible basketball. No scoring and those turnovers... Really hard to watch.

I enjoy watching effort, especially good defense, team chemistry, unselfishness (all the things that the Pastner teams lacked). I have faith that execution will come with experience. I think most of the turnovers were unselfish, so I'm less concerned about them than I would if the team made them out of a bunch of one-on-one plays.

Easily agree, micman. Penny gets everything out of his guys in terms of effort. Now, can he get all out of their talent? We'll see. But he knows the game and he's very very relatable to players. I've shocked by his in game decision making and game planning. He motivates well. He energizes the team and fan base. I'm not sure what more we could want. A former Dukie on staff so the NCAA would get off our nuts?

I'm down with Battier on staff. Lets start recruiting him.

That would be fun! Battier was a great Grizzly! Great for the city!

So IMO Penny gets an obvious pass for last season & his team seemed to over achiever his 1st year. Even missing Brown & Green, he's recruited much better than Tubby. We'll see the trend over the next couple of years & for sure we're much better off financially.

He gets a pass on the season in terms of results, sure. My biggest question with his coaching game plans and style is does he have to have significantly more talent than most of his opponents to be successful? Based on what I have seen from his coaching at Memphis and East and what I heard about AAU I'm really scared that his style falls in that category. Not many schools can rely on that regularly.
His aau teams were definitely NOT the most talented. Don't get me wrong, Team Penny was not a bunch of scrubs.
