Really like to see us "button" up the last spot. We will be guard heavy next season but I like our scoring and shooting possibilities. Having many of our returnees playing together for a season is a plus. Likewise as many have pointed out Gibson is recovered from ACL should help with rebounding.

Should be interesting if Murphy makes changes to his defense and offense.

Historically his recruiting was length, length and more length for his zone defense.

Now he has a roster which does not match that at all.

Small, faster, etc. designed for a full court game.

We should be able to rotate and put full court pressure.

I think they only won about 5 games in the 98-99 season. Barnes' failure to recruit with a red hot team and a new arena launched the program into a rebuild mode that feels like we're still getting out of.

He still won 15 games with 2 true frosh and one sophomore and then we fired him. Our hole was dug by Boone who cost the program scholarships.

The enduring question is who was EMU's worst revenue sports coach in recent history? Jim Boone or Ron English?
English won a MAC Coach of the Year, so Boone. Could probably mention Jeff Woodruff in that conversation, possibly Charles Ramsey. Lots of good candidates to choose from! In terms of underachieving, the Murph deserves a mention.

Mike Stock football Ray Scott basketball

Ken, my friend "recent" is a relative term. You and I both remember the Stock and Scott disasters because we are freaking old but I was referring to an era of say thirty years back, instead of our prehistoric time. We are dinosaurs to a degree. Nevertheless Stock was a great assistant who had zero business being a head coach. Scott simply mailed it in during his tenure, he never took the EMU position seriously. Both were horrible.

Speaking of horrible, I think the worst University President and Athletic Director in EMU history were the Shelton-Diles team. They laid the groundwork for the hill that EMU has had to climb the past three decades.

Dear Jerry,
You are correct on all points made. Especially the Shelton-Diles team.

I don't believe Shelton and Diles were at EMU together. Correct?

Diles was at EMU 1999 - 2005 and does get SOME good marks (academics).

EDIT: They were at EMU together in 1999 - 2000.

Steve I worked across the street from the old Ann Arbor News when it actually had reporters covering EMU. They held the view of Diles as comical, in fact they piled on him in a Facebook thread recently. He was our Ray Scott hire as AD, a "name' that was largely due to his father's prominence in the area. Heather Lyke, he was not.

Yes, I remember the days. I knew Amy Whitesall. Amy used to cover EMU as if it were UofM.

This is crazy but I saw her at a MBB game at Miami (O).

The joke now is that we can't get someone from MLive to come to the Convo press table.

One thing fans need to realize, is that yes the 90s were different. We had very good MBB teams, MAC MBB was very good, print media was thriving, etc. etc.

Times have changed. 03-hissyfit

The group of reporters who were stomping on Diles did not include her, although she is a fellow EMU alum. Not surprising you would remember her, she is very attractive. She now is working for U-M in a non-sports capacity, I saw her recently and her sons are in the military. She and Steve, her husband are wonderful people.

You hit the bullseye, the 90's were different.

If my memory is correct, around the year 2000 (or say 1999) she became a mom.

I think she gave up covering EMU because of mommy duties...
