Then we could have pretty seamlessly reopened the economy and not had mass unemployment. Instead we opted for a corporate bailout that made what Obama did look like chump change and gave a massively underfunded small business bailout allowing millions of businesses to fail and 10's of millions of people to go unemployed. Sure we can reopen the economy but demand isn't going to immediately go back up to pre-virus levels, and those people are not going to be able to find jobs right away.

The coronavirus "pandemic" of 2020 - to me - is a lot like man's contribution to global warming. Yes, it definitely happened and yes it does have an effect on us. However, the damage from the problem pales in comparison to the damage we incurred due to the "solutions" we have taken to protect us from the problem.

We already know that the death tolls due to coronavirus are inflated - where people that were dying from chronic issues are put down as coronavirus deaths even if they were indirectly exposed to it at best.

Quite frankly, we were fvcked over.

There will be sick leftists running around coughing and sneezing on people trying to spread this.

Here is what I don't get about all of the mitigation we had to attempt in order to fight the virus. I thought the expert opinion pre-covid was that hand sanitizers and sanitizing wipes caused just as much harm (maybe more) than benefit since it could result in 1) pathogens more resistant to these types of sanitation products due to overuse and 2) weaker immune systems due to a lack of exposure to the milder pathogens we get exposed to on a daily basis.

Won't the end result be that we will develop more super bugs due to excessive sanitation to fight a virus that by all objective standards is a mild risk to the majority of the population???

You are aware who insisted the money be given to antiquated State unemployment systems, right? Some of these states are still operating on 5” floppy discs. 1980’s stuff.
IIRC correctly you weren’t even alive when these systems were put in place. But yea, our gal NaN insisted the states send out those checks for fear the Drumpfs name appear on them instead.

No side is innocent on the economic response to this. Both sides insisted on making sure the first group taken care of was the largest corporations. The goal should have been doing everything possible to make sure people remained employed and on payroll. The Hawley/Jayapal plan of having the government foot the payroll bill was the correct answer, and the only way you could keep people employed while having a shutdown. Unfortunately it's probably too late even if there was the political will to do it because a whole bunch of small businesses are shut down permanently.

I completely understand that Dems love to increase the size of government welfare programs by default, and I don't have a problem with in theory giving people a little extra unemployment because the jobs lost were due to no ones fault, but the economic response should have revolved around doing whatever it took to make sure jobs weren't lost and companies didn't go under. Reopening completely tomorrow isn't going to bring demand back to pre-Covid levels. These businesses can't operate at 50-75% demand, which is going to be the reality for a while whether we like it or not.
