This move takes them from 23 varsity sports, most in the CAA, down to 16 - which will be the fewest in the conference.

They have an odd list of sports. They, until it is formally dropped, have men's and women's gymnastics. They don't have softball. They are dropping swimming. They are dropping men's indoor and outdoor track, but keeping cross-country. They are dropping the 2nd most popular women's sport-volleyball and keeping lacrosse and field hockey. They have men's and women's soccer.

Being without men's track and field and women's volleyball is pretty unusual.

keep an eye on UC Riverside next month. They might pull the plug on the entire athletic department.

Minnesota cutting men's tennis, men's gymnastics and men's indoor & outdoor track and field at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. That's what a $75 million deficit can do to ya

Interesting. 4 men's sports.

Sounds like men's gymnastics will soon lose its NCAA status.

NCAA Grants WSU Waiver to Remain Division I

Was cutting the sports worth it in the long run.

I'm surprised TPTB are ok with this. I would think they would want to purge Division I of the schools with no business being there.

i guess football drives the bus, even if its sometimes over a cliff.
how expensive can track and field be that a school like Minnesota has to drop it?. I get you dont get revenue like FB, BB and hockey but if you have kids on a scholarship you have them for 2 sports , some for 3 for those that run XC, at the price of one

The waiver is only for two academic years. They need to get back to the minimum by the time the waiver expires.

TPTB have bigger problems of their own to deal with. Iowa, Minnesota and Stanford are facing tens of millions of dollars in lost revenue. They won't care too much about Wright State's issues

UAA has not cut the sports outright yet. Each sport has been given an amount of money that they need to raise in donations and cash that they will need to have before a certain date to stay afloat. For the skiing, it is alpine that was cut, the nordic program was spared.

a rare sports addition in These Uncertain Times (cue sad piano) - Wagner adds men's swimming and diving for 2021-22. The NEC plans to hold a men's championship for the first time this winter concurrent with the women's championship. 5 teams this year and Wagner to make 6 next year.

effective next summer, La Salle is cutting baseball, softball, volleyball, men's swimming/diving, men's water polo, men's and women's tennis. This takes them from 25 sports down to 18, a similar sort of reduction to what we saw from GW and W&M.

Yikes! Why were they sponsoring so many sports in the first place?

I wonder if we are going to start seeing more and more non-P5 schools dropping to the minimum of 14 just to cut down some of the excess.
