I dined out last night. Thankfully only 2 other tables were occupied and when someone started to sit at the table next to us we asked them to pick another table and they did. Covid19 is not the common cold. In just 2 months it has killed 94 Arkansans. And if all 94 died in a hospital, they died alone. Because once you enter a hospital you do not get any visitors. Covid19 sucks.
Of those 98 Arkansans who tragically died during this, 40 percent were nursing home residents, 10 percent were located in prisons, and close to 100 percent had significant underlying health conditions.
When the virus first appeared in Arkansas, it was projected we'd have 30K cases right now, 2K hospitlizations and nearly 1K dead. Right now we have 4400 cases, 64 currently in a hospital and 98 deaths. We've flattened the curve significantly, and while deaths will continue to happen, we are at a point now that we can begin a gradual return to society comfortable in the fact that we now have enough testing for everyone, and a significantly better ability to trace contacts. At some point, society has to return to work and school virus or not. We might as well get started now that we know we are in a position to better fight future spikes in cases.
I'm not saying 70K Razorback football games, but if 20K could attend and spread out and wear masks, I don't see why not.
