Yep, this is what should happen. But we don't have medical ,"experts" that understand economics (& the affect it has on health) & we don't have politicians with the courage to make right decisions.

Games will be played.
Schedule will be modified to limit travel and get done more quickly. Not sure how this happens with tv contracts and all, but they can figure it out. Maybe as simple as conference games only, no open weeks, with championships and a limited post-season. Try to get finished before a second wave possibly hits in winter.
Testing of entire teams every week. Positive test leads to a 2-week quarantine for the player only. (English Premier League has just announced a 1-week player quarantine which could become the model for pro sports.)
No band. Limited students. Cheerleaders are fine.
Attendance is tough to predict. Right now, I guess 1/3 capacity. Seat costs will be a premium, and availability based upon priority points.
Gates will open much earlier to allow fans to avoid the rush. Masks are mandatory. Bathrooms are fine, due to limited capacity and increased availability of sanitizer.
If restaurants reopen safely over coming months, concessions will have momentum for business as usual.
Tiger Lane will remain open, but limited capacity. Screens will be setup outside the stadium for fans to distantly attend.

Good luck with that. Many schools are cancelling fall break and wrapping up in person classes before Thanksgiving so students don’t travel all over the country and potentially bring COVID-19 back to campus during those two breaks. Or worse yet so that asymptotic students don’t take the disease all over the place and seed new outbreaks.

So sending 150+ staff and students all across the country 6 weeks in the fall likely isn’t happening. That’s what 60ish teams on the road each week? At a time when most universities have banned all sponsored travel. The season looks less and less likely with each passing day.

RE: Football attendance plan
So, ignoring the way this thread has turned towards the conspiracy theories that the Covid-19 pandemic is a communist plot to overthow the free world.....

The 6-foot "social distancing" guidelines apply to most gatherings, but when you start talking about certain types of gatherings, the rules may change. Even with a mask, there is some amount of "spit spray" going on when folks sing, and when they cheer. Much like singing at a church service, at athletic events, there will always be cheering, yelling at the refs, etc., that will cause the virus to spread beyond the 6' social distance bubble.
Masks help dampen any "spit spray" coming out of your mouth and becoming airborne. But, they don't get all of it, they only reduce it. Some of your spit spray is going to escape your mask. And, there is always going to be some idiot in the stands that takes his mask off to yell at the refs because of a bad call. Your cloth mask that your grandma made for you won't protect you from that.

So, if the University decides to have a football game at the LB stadium, but only allow 30K fans in, will I go? Maybe. Hopefully, I won't have to make that decision until August.

IF you are under the age of 60 with no pre existing serious medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory/lung disease, your chances of dying are close to zero; less than the flu, measles, getting hit by a car, etc.

It really doesn't matter what happens around you.

And according to numbers released today, more people have died in Memphis of drug overdoses than COVID-19 in Memphis so far in 2020...

And how is a drug stat mortality rate relevant...?

All we do to avoid dying of drugs is

drum roll...................................................

not take them.

Similar to comparing our odds to getting hit by a car, wouldn't you say?

Odds really have very little to do with the daily routine of a normal person.

My daily routine does not involve taking drugs, it does involve driving a car.

We just wash our hands, wear a mask in public and avoid dense gatherings.
why is that so difficult?

You're listening to the wrong people.
Look at how the numbers are trending favorably everywhere - including states who are reopened.
Look at what the leagues across the world are doing.
Listen to what SEC football schools are saying - cause we know they run college fb.
Some may not like it, but sports are coming back in 2020.

What about our student-athletes?

They have choices to make. Just like the risks from knee injury, concussion, broken bones, and spinal injuries. They have been weighing risks since the beginning of college athletics.

If they choose to not play, then schollies don't last very long.

RE: Football attendance plan
Saw a breakdown on projected deaths of COVID using current distributions by age. This is based upon 150k deaths - which seems high to me, but we'll go with it.

Total number of deaths in the age group of 15-24 which would cover our student-athlete population = 161 total deaths. That is way down the list of death causes for this age group. Behind Flu/Pneumonia deaths which average 189 per year.

Most people on this board don't know what the consequences were of the Atalanta-Valencia Champions League soccer game back in February, but the major sports leagues do. And they don't want that to happen again.

‘More than a month later, experts are pointing to a Champions League game between Atalanta and Valencia as one of the biggest reasons why Bergamo, Italy, has become one of the epicenters of the coronavirus pandemic — a “biological bomb” was the way one respiratory specialist put it.‘

Yeah, I saw that episode too. But it's a theory and was absent quite a bit of data to back it up. Some scientists are now saying that we had the virus on the West coast in December. If so, we certainly had it at the Super Bowl. But I've seen no traceable data to support anything like what Real Sports said about the soccer match.

Yeah ... Same with Mardi Gras. Common sense says that was probably a big reason for the high Cv19 rate early in N.O. ... But traceable data ??? 07-coffee3

Same here ... Only mine's a 55 ... So I got to sit closer.

If there gonna have fans ... Redo ticket sales where all seats are 6 ft apart. Sell beverages in bottles only, food in sealed bags. Tiger lane won't work ... Require masks when not seated ... Encourage early arrival ...
