Yep, this is what should happen. But we don't have medical ,"experts" that understand economics (& the affect it has on health) & we don't have politicians with the courage to make right decisions.

100% agree. Both sides of the isle have been wrong. Both sides of the isle have played politics rather than pay attention to the virologists who correctly warned us what we were in for. The main thing Trump and the list of Democrats named in this thread said was “we got it under control. Nothing to worry about.” The delays in responding beyond limited travel restrictions quickly turned the United States into a c-19 breeding ground among the worst in years world.

Going back to Bush we were being warned that what we have right now was going to happen. We off-shored industry that makes PPP, we cut funding for research and development, we reorganized people out of key leadership roles, we cut off response teams in frequent hotspot areas, we stopped funding to assist response in other counties that helped keep spread from coming to our shores.

There is plenty of short-sightedness and negligence by republicans and Democrats over several presidencies across many years

Games will be played.
Schedule will be modified to limit travel and get done more quickly. Not sure how this happens with tv contracts and all, but they can figure it out. Maybe as simple as conference games only, no open weeks, with championships and a limited post-season. Try to get finished before a second wave possibly hits in winter.
Testing of entire teams every week. Positive test leads to a 2-week quarantine for the player only. (English Premier League has just announced a 1-week player quarantine which could become the model for pro sports.)
No band. Limited students. Cheerleaders are fine.
Attendance is tough to predict. Right now, I guess 1/3 capacity. Seat costs will be a premium, and availability based upon priority points.
Gates will open much earlier to allow fans to avoid the rush. Masks are mandatory. Bathrooms are fine, due to limited capacity and increased availability of sanitizer.
If restaurants reopen safely over coming months, concessions will have momentum for business as usual.
Tiger Lane will remain open, but limited capacity. Screens will be setup outside the stadium for fans to distantly attend.

Good luck with that. Many schools are cancelling fall break and wrapping up in person classes before Thanksgiving so students don’t travel all over the country and potentially bring COVID-19 back to campus during those two breaks. Or worse yet so that asymptotic students don’t take the disease all over the place and seed new outbreaks.

So sending 150+ staff and students all across the country 6 weeks in the fall likely isn’t happening. That’s what 60ish teams on the road each week? At a time when most universities have banned all sponsored travel. The season looks less and less likely with each passing day.

RE: Football attendance plan
So, ignoring the way this thread has turned towards the conspiracy theories that the Covid-19 pandemic is a communist plot to overthow the free world.....

The 6-foot "social distancing" guidelines apply to most gatherings, but when you start talking about certain types of gatherings, the rules may change. Even with a mask, there is some amount of "spit spray" going on when folks sing, and when they cheer. Much like singing at a church service, at athletic events, there will always be cheering, yelling at the refs, etc., that will cause the virus to spread beyond the 6' social distance bubble.
Masks help dampen any "spit spray" coming out of your mouth and becoming airborne. But, they don't get all of it, they only reduce it. Some of your spit spray is going to escape your mask. And, there is always going to be some idiot in the stands that takes his mask off to yell at the refs because of a bad call. Your cloth mask that your grandma made for you won't protect you from that.

So, if the University decides to have a football game at the LB stadium, but only allow 30K fans in, will I go? Maybe. Hopefully, I won't have to make that decision until August.

IF you are under the age of 60 with no pre existing serious medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory/lung disease, your chances of dying are close to zero; less than the flu, measles, getting hit by a car, etc.

It really doesn't matter what happens around you.

And according to numbers released today, more people have died in Memphis of drug overdoses than COVID-19 in Memphis so far in 2020...

March 1st

"Cuomo announced New York's first confirmed coronavirus patient: a woman in her late 30s believed to have contracted the virus in Iran. "There is no cause for surprise -- this was expected. As I said from the beginning, it was a matter of when, not if there would be a positive case of novel coronavirus in New York," Cuomo said. He assured New Yorkers that the general risk in the state "remains low."

NYC MAYOR DE BLASIO PART I
February 13

"There are ZERO confirmed cases of coronavirus in New York City, and hundreds of Chinese restaurants that need your business!" Also, words of encouragement at the end of February because Chinatown restaurant business was almost back up to normal.

NYC MAYOR DI BLASIO PART II
March 2

"On March 1, the first case of the coronavirus was announced in New York City. At the time, more than 80,000 people worldwide had confirmed cases of the virus, and President Trump had issued travel warnings against South Korea and Italy. However, de Blasio wasn't as concerned. "Since I’m encouraging New Yorkers to go on with your lives + get out on the town despite Coronavirus, I thought I would offer some suggestions," de Blasio tweeted on March 2."

NYC MAYOR DI BLASIO PART III
March 10th
"On March 10, the mayor insisted on MSNBC that "If you're under 50 and you're healthy, which is most New Yorkers, there's very little threat here. This disease, even if you were to get it, basically acts like a common cold or flu. And transmission is not that easy."

March 15th
"On March 15, to the irritation of his own health department, the mayor claimed that "public health folks say it appears that transmission is when people are symptomatic."

JERRY NADLER
March 31st
"I believe that Trump's travel ban is irrational and doesn't help the public."

ALEXANDRIA OCRAZIO CORTEZ
March 11th
"People are avoiding Chinese restaurants due to 'straight-up racism' " By default, she is saying that crowding restaurants and public places anywhere in NYC is ok.

JOE BIDEN
January 27th
Said Trump's travel ban was hysterical xenophobia. First mention of supporting it was April 3rd.

BERNIE SANDERS
March 9th
During Town Hall on Fox News says he wouldn't have closed the borders.

NANCY PELOSI
February 24h
Walked through Chinatown in San Francisco with large group, crowded closely together, saying no problem.

Literally every single high profile NYC politician, every single high profile Democrat were all saying it wasn't a problem as late as up to the end of March.

Yet the HATE towards one man remains at unparalleled levels.

Why should we worry about his hate level, or anyone's hate level, especially when we are engaged in living through the social, economic and physical losses of a pandemic...?

Those quotes prove some people learn the hard way, i.e. they don't change their tunes until it hits them square in the face.

There are others who never change their tunes-- for those types, there is no learning curve.

And there is a small group of folks who get it right from the beginning. meh...that percentage is irrelevant to the outcome, also.

All we do to avoid dying of drugs is

drum roll...................................................

not take them.

Similar to comparing our odds to getting hit by a car, wouldn't you say?

Devil's Advocate: All we do to avoid dying of COVID-19 is not go outside

Odds really have very little to do with the daily routine of a normal person.

My daily routine does not involve taking drugs, it does involve driving a car.

We just wash our hands, wear a mask in public and avoid dense gatherings.
why is that so difficult?

You're listening to the wrong people.
Look at how the numbers are trending favorably everywhere - including states who are reopened.
Look at what the leagues across the world are doing.
Listen to what SEC football schools are saying - cause we know they run college fb.
Some may not like it, but sports are coming back in 2020.

What about our student-athletes?

They have choices to make. Just like the risks from knee injury, concussion, broken bones, and spinal injuries. They have been weighing risks since the beginning of college athletics.

If they choose to not play, then schollies don't last very long.
