Paine College Loses Accreditation

We might see them being booted from the NCAAs like Morris Brown did.

It has been quite the fall for Paine. As recently as 2015, Paine was thrown around as a Big East expansion candidate.

Fast forward 3 years, and Paine caught the attention of the Grim Reaper:

Private Colleges Fail, In Debt

This article came out last year. 177 private colleges which 112 are not for profit are in danger. Several on the list already closed down like Dowling, Mount Ida, Saint Gregory's, Bacone and others. Here are some schools that could be the next ones to close

If they do close, there are going to be some very upset people in Georgia. I would assume that Augusta U would purchase the land, tear down most of the buildings and expand the medical part of their campus.

Big East really wanted BYU-Hawaii, shame they dropped athletics.

Paine College in the Big East!

Not to mention the fact that Paine had already been having accrediting issues since 2012 (3 years BEFORE he posted that ridiculously idiotic list).

Ouachita Baptist was the one that caught my eye. The school has an enrollment of 1,500 and the town's population is 10,000. I couldn't tell you if the town even has it's own newspaper but it definitely does not have any tv stations. That doesn't come anywhere close to fitting in with the profile of Big East members. And more, people have trouble pronouncing the school's name despite having Cliff Harris as an alumni.

A couple notes on what was happening at the date of that list (10-03-2015). Point Loma Nazarene, Shorter, and Union (TN) had just completed their first year as a full D2 member. Saint Anselm College had been exploring a possible move to D3 for two months.

I posted the first game between Arkansas vs Ouachita Baptist football game. I never mentioned them going to D1.
Shorter on the other hand might be one that could close.
Point Loma seems to be okay for now.

What the bloody ****** are you talking about. We are not discussing a football game from 1897 or whether a school could close. We are discussing schools you listed as "candidates" for Big East expansion in 2015. If you never mentioned Ouachita Baptist going D1, then what is this post in the thread titled "CBS Sports College Hoops Mailbag: Big East Expansion?" about.

That was the standing on the final private schools games they played in men's basketball. It was not a list for the Big East to expand with. Only Bellarmine they might be interested in the future since they are Catholics as well. So this is not a list to expand, but it is the rankings of the privates in men's basketball. Stop this BSing with your crap. I would never suggested Paine or Ouachita Baptist to go D1 or to the Big East.

1. That's not what your post said.
2. Sure, you can look at that list and say, no reasonable person would suggest that these school are Big East or Division I candidates. But DavidSt, on the subject of conference realignment, you are NOT a reasonable person, you are a raving lunatic on all fours screaming the text of Revelations at squirrels in the town park.

Florida Southern or Bellarmine to the Big East is completely bugs-under-the-skin crazy, and you're on that train. So just because suggesting that school X move to Division Y or Conference Z is stupid and crazy is no reason for you not to suggest it--that's your entire reason for existence on this board.

Read your post carefully, just considering the grammar and structure.

"If the Big East is looking for (candidates with quality X)"
<List of schools.>

The most reasonable interpretation of that post is, a list of possible Big East candidates based on quality X.

Well done, that is a great non-answer. What is the point of posting a men's basketball ranking of D2 private schools in a discussion on Big East expansion; it's off-topic.

If you weren't suggesting these schools for D1, then why did you defend your list in three posts.
(10-03-2015 02:48 PM)DavidSt Wrote:  The problem is that these schools do fit their criteria, but are not in the same tv markets.

Could Drury be another target besides St. Louis? I think they are in the KC tv market?

(10-04-2015 05:15 PM)DavidSt Wrote:  Never say never with D2 schools. Some D2 schools are more attractive than some that are already at D1 level because those D2 schools have better facilities than D1 schools.

(10-04-2015 06:17 PM)DavidSt Wrote:  Take a good look at the Gulf South Conference? They produced several D1 programs like Jacksonville State and Troy. They could have some moving up.
RMAC was a former D1 conference that had Colorado and Colorado State in it.
GNAC, if any Big Sky schools move to FBS, Big Sky can add any of the GNAC schools. Plus, some D2 schools were D1 at one time. There are some history by bringing them up into the fold.
