Exclamation High Schools resume football practice - why not colleges?
Per this article from the Commercial Appeal, some high schools have started football practice. Others are scheduled to do so soon. Why can't colleges follow suit?

Or maybe a more logical idea would be...

High school kids don't stay in dorms and the decision to have a season is local not national.

Why does everything have to be political.

And they don't have to travel across the country to get to that dorm.

BTW, everything nowadays is political.

Man, I'm surprised that some high schools are doing this? Why now? Why not just wait another month or two. Seems unnecessarily risky for the kids and coaches.

No more risky now than it will be next month unless there is a new wave of infections due to reopening.

Safe money is on a second wave of positive infections starting now as more and more open.

I surely hope you are wrong.

Hopefully masks, awareness and sanitation would be enough to stop any new outbreaks especially in less populated areas like Memphis.

That would require most people to actually wear masks and not think they are a conspiracy theory or infringing on their rights or just too lazy to wear them. But yeah, hopefully enough people wearing them with limited openings of retail and restaurants along with at least the idea of social distancing will help.

RE: High Schools resume football practice - why not colleges?
I think there are 2 schools of thought when looking at the downward trends relative to this disease. I take the view that the trend will continue downward as we achieve herd immunity, continue to revise and improve treatment, and the items macgar32 mentioned (masks, awareness, sanitation). There maybe bumps (a few thousand spike here and there); but materially we are headed to mitigation of this and a return to a more normal life. The other view is we will spike up to a level of infection that returns us to New York of late March. I think that is highly unlikely. The process of diagnosing and treating COVID have dramatically changed.

People in the risk factors lives are changed forever (people over 55 or with heart, lung, or immunity disorders); but under 55 and healthy the impact is light or non-existent.

The more time we go without a spike, the less a chance there is to have one... we'll be fine.

Great work guys.

And to add to the points above. The show must go on! It’s sad the way the media runs our life. No one really knows the truth about any of this covid stuff.

+1

Love, believe, trust, support, hope... great group of people. This is what I think of our doctors and scientific community.

that said...

If you ask Ned; bout his business. And if you ask Ned whats gonna happen next month. He will tell you and be right; often.

BUT!!!!!

If you ask one of the wonderful people of the afore mentioned community whats gonna happen next month; you will many different responses and they all will be wrong.

I wish it weren't so. I hope someday it isn't.

They never stopped in Florida, they just practiced off campus. Our neighborhood turf field has been full every day since mid-March.

They didn't stop in TN either. My local high school has been working out for the last month, off campus.

Will people still be dying from a highly contagious virus with no proven vaccine or treatment. Or will political wishing make it go away?
