UWGB could make money if hockey was started. Those seats would be sold. That's why Augustana wants DI because their USHL team in Sioux Falls almost sells out every game. UND gets 250 k every season but somehow we are losers to people like you and DavidSt. Eau Claire is very similar to St Cloud St and Duluth but they have sense enough not to go overboard with DI because they can't afford it.

It's not June yet, as you insist. Our new President, from AFA, is installed June 1st, so that might delay any decision.

As always, of anyone disagrees with johnbragg or this board their plain wrong.

Just a point of evidence that UWEC is configuring it's sports of the liking of the GLIAC but without football. Adding two sports that the WIAC doesn't have in 2021 (baseball excepted), and it's male dominated which it can't afford with fb. How does UWEC add baseball, men's soccer, women's lax, and expand ice hockey roster without cutting a major men's sport? The WIAC is screwed by those sport changes. Its possible UWEC wants the Northern Sun, but NSIC members with women's lax go to the GLIAC.

One way is to --not expand ice hockey. There's no evidence on the table of UWEC raising the profile of their ice hockey program.

Now, they are adding two sports that the WIAC doesn't have that GLIAC does have. So MAYBE they're looking at a move up.

But if they're leaving the WIAC, what *do* they do with their hockey program? It's a long haul to play in Hockey East or Atlantic Hockey. Is there any reason to believe that the CCHA or NCHC wants them?

If you have any links to evidence, I'll listen to that. But you just proclaim things, and you have a track record of proclaiming things that never happen.

It's very very possible that they just plan to grow in Division III.

No evidence except $40 million.
Some moderators need to talk with the new CCHA. It has seven members and ten with UWEC, UWGB, and St Thomas would be perfect. Imagine that, a realignment that makes perfect text sense but still bashed by an incompetent realignment moderator.

That's plausible. Dumping Alaska schools and Huntsville, AL pairs well with adding schools in Wisconsin and Minnesota. But is there any evidence that the CCHA schools are interested in UWEC?

The Great Northern always "made sense", as a grouping of the flagships-and-land-grants in the big flat empty part of the US. But just making sense isn't enough, because university presidents don't always share our views of the situation. And the Montana schools aren't attracted to the Great Northern.

Is UWEC attracted to Division 2? Is the CCHA attracted to UWEC? (Or St Thomas?) We don't know yet. Embrace the "maybe", NoDak.

EDIT: Actually, would St Thomas be a fit for the NCHC? Or is that too big a jump from Division III hockey?

UWEC is attracted to hockey above DIII as they have complained about DIII hockey. That's why they gave $40 mill to a hockey arena.

UWGB wanted to host the CCHA tournament with upper Michigan, schools so their is mutual interest.

St Thomas needs to prove a couple hockey things before they would be asked to the NCHC. That league tournament is most entirely UND fans even though it is played now in St Paul. Can UST add to them? Can UST build or rent a major rink? Can UST be a top rated DI team? I believe UST passes all those with flying colors.

North Dakota and Montana share a huge economic reality called the Bakken. Oil prices may suck now, but only fools believe it will stay there.

For the WAC it may be just because there are possible DII teams.

For the Summit merger. it's June 30th as we're talking Full DI schools.

Or maybe the buildings were really old, and $40M is just what new buildings cost?

Fairborn, Ohio needed to build a new primary and intermediate school because the old ones were insanely old and showing it. Cost of two new school buildings? $58 million. These aren't going to be gold-plated schools with champagne fountains--that's just what it costs to build stuff.

Quote:UWGB wanted to host the CCHA tournament with upper Michigan, schools so their is mutual interest.

Source on UWGB trying to host the CCHA tournament? Does the CCHA often site their tournament at a neutral site? Wait, is this the new CCHA or the old one that got nuked by the formation of the NCHC? When are you talking about?

Quote:St Thomas needs to prove a couple hockey things before they would be asked to the NCHC. That league tournament is most entirely UND fans even though it is played now in St Paul. "Prove a couple of things first" means "No", at least for now. So St Thomas needs to find a Division I hockey conference in the meantime.

Quote:North Dakota and Montana share a huge economic reality called the Bakken. Oil prices may suck now, but only fools believe it will stay there.

That's a reality of the oil business, but the reality of college administrations is that, since the FBS study 10 years ago, Montana (and MSU) have made zero moves towards FBS, or towards I-29.

Well, Eau Claire's arch rival, UW-LaCrosse, plays women's lacrosse. Men's soccer used to be a WIAC sport and Whitewater and Platteville still play.

Not sure about where you are coming up with UWEC expanding of hockey. Hobbs was remodeled in 2008. The hockey team isn't going to play in the new arena. Adding to the roster? UWEC is D3. Athletes don't receive scholarships.

Look, none of the schools are leaving the WIAC to move up. It just isn't going to happen. First, the State of Wisconsin will not allow it. Second, the financials at all the schools won't allow it. Third, the WIAC is the premier D3 sports conference. Whitewater has better facilities than some D1 schools. Not sure the competition would be any better joining a mid-level D2 conference anyway. Fourth, you would see a huge drop in attendance if UWEC switched conferences, costing the school revenue. Stout, LaCrosse, Platteville, and Point are relatively close and increase home attendance. These are long time rivals and pretty decent sized schools (enrollment between 9000-11,000). Moving to GLIAC would really kill attendance. Its closest conference rival, Parkside, is a very small school (4300 or so) and 5 hours away.

Parkside and GB are odd because they were founded way after the other WIAC schools, so they have done kind of their own thing. Superior simply could not compete with the other WIAC schools, so they dropped out 4-5 years ago. UWM had been in the WIAC back in the day, but they have been D1 for a long time now.

He’ll be back. Once he gets laughed off of Reddit or any other message board he comes running back with more crazy conferences that will never see the light of day except in his head.
