BYU has a national championship. I think the convo ends there.

That's not what Boise's MWC membership agreement says.

Boise chose the MWC based on that agreement. If the MWC wants to void the agreement, then the MWC is going to face a claim for damages in the amount of money that Boise would have made as an AAC member from 2013 to now, based on the AAC-ESPN contracts. (Minus the travel subsidies Boise would have paid to the MWC, minus the money the MWC did pay to Boise)
Mountain West rescinds decision to end Boise State’s TV bonus for home football games

What doesn’t change, however, is the basic dispute. Boise State will continue to receive $1.8 million per year in addition to what everyone else in the conference gets through 2025-26. And the rest of the conference will continue to fight for equitable distribution after that.

Call me crazy, but I do not see the MWC giving Boise State extra cash after 2025-26. So Boise St will either jump to the BIG12,PAC12, AAC, or Indy.... Or share equal revenue Starting in 2026-27... Going to be interesting

Or they'lll go to court with a clearly written contract and win.

OHH... So the Mountain West gave Boise State a lifetime contract...... Nope not buying it...

Well, there's no termination date. So it's pretty much a lifetime contract. As long as Boise State is a member of the MWC, they're entitled to that extra $1.8M.

Quote:Boise State has notice, they can either shut up and color or they can leave in 2026-27...

If the rest of the MWC has the votes and the brass cojones to vote Boise STate out of the conference, then they have leverage. Otherwise, Boise State can tell them to take a whiz up a rope.

Sure, all kinds of things can change. But what's printed on the paper is printed on the paper, and the paper says, to paraphrase from Goodfellas, Sorry about your circumstances, pay me.

I don't think the MWC has the 9 votes or whatever number it takes to threaten to kick Boise STate out of the conference. Now or in 2025.

True. And BSU won their title on the field, not in the polls.

AAC doesn’t need that. MWC is stuck with them.

I think the AAC has a bigger target in mind. I just wonder if COVID makes it easier or more difficult to sink it.

BYU isn’t happening. Neither is Army or Air Force. San Diego State and some western block doesn’t make sense to anyone out west.

Boise aside, my favorite is the bit about the AAC locking up the G5 bid with Colorado State, SDSU, and UNLV or Air Force. Um, those aren’t even the best teams in that conference! Hawaii, Fresno, Utah State, and Nevada are all capable of snagging a G5 bid if they run the table. Ultimately, it’s going to be a toss-up every year that could be dependent on who beats a P5 team or two.

The AAC may set their target high—like the Big XII did with ND and Arkansas—but that doesn’t mean it’s realistic.

Two types expansion.
Survival and growth.
Most of the moves of BE->AAC were survival oriented now. AAC at 11 isn’t in survival mode and unless the schedule/championship situation becomes unbearable AAC has no need to add until the school shows up that 3/4ths of the members are excited to add.

Who knows? UTEP AD and President seem to float the idea of a realigned CUSA and SBC with Liberty with the Eastern group and NMSU in the Western group.

I'm not sure her breakdown makes complete sense. Liberty Football has a bunch of ACC schools on the schedule, and would take some years to unwind the schedule enough to fully participate in Football. UAB's fan base is more aligned with the East than the West. UALR and UT Arlington were left off the list entirely.

But maybe what she has in mind for the West was two Divisions of 7:
West: NMSU, UTEP, UTSA, North Texas, Texas State, Rice, Arkansas State
East: UAB, Troy, USA, USM, ULM, ULL, LTU

So you went that way you'd only have two crossovers in Football. Basketball could be similar, maybe 12 games in Division and 4 cross over.

Doesn't seem like it's totally thought out. Still if you are a New Mexico State fan, it's got to be heartening to hear UTEP going to bat for you.

I think ultimately you’ll see UAB/Troy in the eastern conference, opening 2 spots for UALR/UTA, and ArkSt to be with the Louisiana schools.

WESTERN CONFERENCE (2 divisions of 6/7)
USA, USM, UL, ULM, LT, ArkSt (+ UALR)
UNT, TexSt, Rice, UTSA, UTEP, NMSU (+ UTA)

Yes, Boise won a 1-AA title. Had to look that one up.
