BYU makes more money as an independent than they would make in the MWC. BYU's issue is that while they have a large fanbase that draws at the gate, for some reason their TV viewership draw is lower than Boise ST & Cincy in 2019. Their poor TV draw along with all of the baggage they bring they will be last considered among most P-5 conferences. I guess there is a scenario where if the BIG12 raids Pac 12 schools that BYU would be considered, however I could see Col St getting an invite over BYU...IMHO

Two things are for sure:

1. The new MWC Deal ends 2025-2026 and the next deal will not give Boise State extra cash...

2. 2023 Pac12 & 2024 BIG12 signs a new TV deals, Boise State only P-5 Jump might be during that time frame or jumping to the AAC before the 2025-26 new MWC TV deal...We will see...

Right, so Boise State will need to weigh out whether going to a small-time Olympic league, and possibly paying travel subsidy to cash-strapped Cali programs balances out that cash bump AAC football would provide.

I don't see it as being that much of a difference. I believe the MWC sees that too and is calling Boise's bluff. Boise just needs to make a run to the G5 bowl and they'll be happy.

That's not what Boise's MWC membership agreement says.

Boise chose the MWC based on that agreement. If the MWC wants to void the agreement, then the MWC is going to face a claim for damages in the amount of money that Boise would have made as an AAC member from 2013 to now, based on the AAC-ESPN contracts. (Minus the travel subsidies Boise would have paid to the MWC, minus the money the MWC did pay to Boise)

Not me. I am saying New Mexico State is not getting into either CUSA and MWC. Been saying that for awhile. MWC would invite either UCOnn and UMass way before New Mexico State, and that is a long shot there as well.

That's not going to be much damages. Once you subtract any travel subsidies Boise would have paid to another western conference, and the money Boise did make in the MWC, and the extra expense of traveling all the way from Boise to the east coast just to play conference games, Boise might not have enough left to pay their attorneys.

Boise probably would get the ability to leave the MWC for free, i.e., without paying exit fees. For that matter, the MWC ought to just offer that up front.

For the first AAC and MWC contracts, it's a wash--the AAC was getting a million or so more per school, but that would have gone straight to the Big West for travel.
But the new contract numbers are about $3.75M per year vs about $6.95M.

That's $3M a year, less $1M for travel to the Big West, less $1.8M per year (replacing the National Exposure Bonuses), yeah that doesn't add up to very much.

No disagreement here. It’s not unlike the supposed “right of first refusal” Army and Navy used to have with Big East football. You can set your sights high, but I wouldn’t count on it. But, you still ask.

And I think that’s why there has been no action on the replacement front. The AAC really wants the likes of BYU, Army, and AFA. All it can get is CUSA. That’s not going over very well.

Mountain West rescinds decision to end Boise State’s TV bonus for home football games

What doesn’t change, however, is the basic dispute. Boise State will continue to receive $1.8 million per year in addition to what everyone else in the conference gets through 2025-26. And the rest of the conference will continue to fight for equitable distribution after that.

Call me crazy, but I do not see the MWC giving Boise State extra cash after 2025-26. So Boise St will either jump to the BIG12,PAC12, AAC, or Indy.... Or share equal revenue Starting in 2026-27... Going to be interesting

Boise State is pulling their weight. The others have not. When have any of the other schools in the running for the NY6 bowl?

We’ll see what happens with what the PAC and XII after their deals expires. If there’s “leftovers” be sure that Boise St will be with them.

Air Force, Fresno, Utah St, and SDSU have all been in the running at some point since the NY6 Bowls have been in. BSU has been in the running a few times but still has only been in one and that was 6 years ago.

In the last 6 years, those schools had losing seasons with at being at .500 or below in losses. Boise have from 1 to 3 losses a year.

The only non-power school that has had multiple NY6 appearances is Central Florida. The AAC has 4 of 6 and that’s far more important than Boise St only having 1. The Mt West is unofficially the #7 conference behind the AAC and the AAC is dominating in what matters and that is NY6 appearances.

OHH... So the Mountain West gave Boise State a lifetime contract...... Nope not buying it... Boise State has notice, they can either shut up and color or they can leave in 2026-27... The choice is theirs to make... A lot can change in six years. Maybe Boise State football declines, or somebody else, like San Diego State or Colorado State, dramatically improves, so the Broncos don’t enter the next negotiation period with the same leverage. Maybe the conference has new leadership. Maybe Boise loves working with Fox (the network apparently wants to make Boise’s home game against Florida State a Big Noon Kickoff event…but at 10 AM local). But if we see more of the same dynamics over the next few years…why should Boise stay in the league?

Hypothetically, the Broncos could join the American, restore a working relationship with ESPN (which has unquestionably been beneficial for Boise State), and make more money. Or, depending on what happens with the College Football Playoff, what’s stopping them from deciding to play a more national schedule and go independent? If BYU can get potentially $10M+ annually from ESPN, couldn’t Boise State at least get close to what they’re making now, especially if they secure a few more P5 home games?

BYU is to the mormon church what Notre Dame has traditionally been to the catholic faithful. BYU has a history of national success that dates back to when Boise was still a JC. These two are not the same.

And they've still only been to one NY6 bowl, and they were lucky they got that one since they had 2 losses that year. BSU has been a very good consistent program in that time but they haven't been much better than the rest of the competition in the MWC year in and year out, even if the best competition in the MWC changes each year.
