UT Martin Skyhawks
East Alabama State Red Hens.... (I'll give a rep to the first to tell me their real name.)

Lee (D2 GSC) is also the Flames. There are two more Dolphins in New York; Le Moyne College and College of Staten Island (both D2).

I just saw something about Baltimore University (MD), which ceased athletics in the 80's... Their nickname/mascot was the "Super Bees." Like "Murder Hornets" before we were aware that such a thing existed.
Super.
Bees.

Sun Devils and Ragin' Cajuns are two of my favorites.

Arkansas Tech played Montana State-Northern back in the 1995 NAIA men's basketball quarterfinals and it took a while to figure out who we were playing. I was with a small group listening to the game. The radio play-by-play referred to them as "Northern Lights" so we thought it was Wonder Boys vs Northern Lights. It might have been at halftime that the confusion was cleared up. Later on, we were still saying what a cool nickname "Northern Lights" would have been.

Do College summer baseball leagues count? If so, I'd like to formally nominate The Savannah Bananas:

The best nickname and logo in college athletics was the Fighting Sioux. Unfortunately, the NCAA didn't see it that way.

Should have tried to get the blessing of Sioux Nation, maybe they would have supported North Dakota. Kinda like the Seminole Nation does for Florida State.

UND was able to get the Spirit Lake to vote and approve the name/logo. The leadership at Standing Rock would not allow a vote on it. They knew it would pass, which is why they couldn't allow it.

The local Community College. Great story on how it came about to - basically a protest vote in the early 70's against spending money on athletics - students wrote in Artichokes and won the election over more traditional names.

School colors were voted as Hot Pink and Lime Green, but that was changed

Going with that intramural b'ball team at Northern Colorado

Quote:The team sold enough shirts that they were eventually able to endow a sizeable scholarship fund for Native American students at Northern Colorado. In 2003, the team donated $100,000 to the University of Northern Colorado's UNC Foundation, which included $79,000 designated for the "Fightin' Whites Minority Scholarship"

Nothing funnier than living in SC and seeing folks unironically wearing shirts with I (heart) Cocks on them.
