Bowling Green Cuts Baseball

Quote:Bowling Green director of athletics Bob Moosbrugger — a former Falcons baseball player — said the move was needed.

Quote:“Clearly, I know that fans and donors and certainly baseball alumni will be disappointed in this decision, and in me,” Moosbrugger said in a virtual press conference. “Personally, I had to put my personal bias aside for the sport that I love and one of the reasons why I came here, and do what I thought was best for the entire athletic department.”

Quote:The school says the decision to cut baseball will save about $500,000 annually.

Im sorry but 500,000 isn't that much in the grand scheme of an athletic budget. Considering at least 100,000 - 150.000 would be for the coach alone.

Alums (including LA Dodger pitcher Orel Hershiser) and fans raise $1.5 million ... so Bowling Green baseball is back for at least three years!

Failure of leadership to not call Orel before making a public announcement of cutting the program. Glad Orel saved the program.

My question is, how long will that 1.5 million last. Baseball is one of the top 3 most costly sports there are for a university. Good for Hershiser and the fans but my guess is that 1.5 million will be gone in less than 2 years and by 2022 BUGS will be staring down this decision again.
