If things keep exploding the way they are (COVID), I think competition seasons and athletic teams/programs will be dropping like flies come this spring.

Not quite dropping sports, but Charlotte announced some athletic staff furloughs and UNC is asking donors to help make up a 30 million dollar shortfall due to lost ticket and TV revenue.

Just thought I would share this here. I hope this does not come true.

Cancelling the entire non-conference schedule is a decision they should have made from the start, not the week it is about to begin. I don’t think they have the guts to do it.

If they don't do it literally today, pissing off a bunch of programs en route or already at their opening-game destinations, then it's going to be harder to justify if some schools get to play a non-con or two while others don't. Retroactively calling them exhibitions (or at the least not counting them for NET or NCAA tournament selection purposes) would be even more problematic. Perhaps let everyone get in what they can this week and then put a cap on the OOC at that point. But you're right, I don't think they're going to do it now unless the outbreak gets even worse.

East Carolina caves to the Title IX lawsuit threat, brings back the women's sports, leaves the men's counterparts out to dry.

https://ecupirates.com/news/2021/1/7/gen...ennis.aspx

This is where ambulance chaser Arthur H. Bryant (no relation to me or the BBQ) continues to do a disservice to Title IX. This guy has made a career out of threatening lawsuits when a school drops a women's sport and does absolutely nothing to try to bring the men back. The worst kind of predatory lawyer, using a good law and exploiting it based on its interpretation in college sports.

Quote:The math works at Fairleigh Dickinson because the university's enrollment and dormitories aren't at full capacity. That's not the case everywhere. Schools such as Stanford and Clemson, both of which cut sports this year, will have no problem filling the erstwhile athletes' spots in dorms and classrooms with other students who don't play sports and might be more likely to pay full price for their tuition.
