They always split us from UAB.

Sure seems like the papers advocating this are always in CUSA towns...Norfolk and Hattiesburg for example.

I would prefer being in a conference with S Miss, UAB, Marshall, App St, GA St, GaSO, Ark St, UL, LA Tech, MTSU + James Madison (or WKU). I don't think the F_Us are very attractive (but would pick FAU over FIU) and Texas schools are too far west...

All I ask is that the side that South ends up on keeps the Sun Belt name.

Yet another article where the writer/OP separates their own school from the F_ U’s.

RE: Sun-Herald: Pandemic has left little choice. C-USA and the Sun Belt have to realign.
For people who don't want to read through the umpteenth bizillionth CUSA-SBC reorganization article, here are the proposed leagues:

East
Florida Atlantic
Western Kentucky
Marshall
Florida International
Middle Tennessee
Old Dominion
Appalachian State
Charlotte
Georgia Southern
Georgia State
Troy
Coastal Carolina

West
Louisiana Tech
Southern Miss
UAB
La. Tech
Louisiana-Lafayette
Louisiana-Monroe
South Alabama
Arkansas State
North Texas
Rice
UTSA
UTEP
Texas State (I assume they're supposed to be here, the author left them off)

The problems here: UAB and Georgia State separated and Troy and South Alabama separated. I don't think you're going to come up with a 12-12 split of CUSA and SBC schools that won't leave someone unhappy.

Some changes need to be made for sure, but the Biloxi Sun Herald will have little to say about what they will be. These sort of newspaper stories are intended to stir things up, much like WaPo and the NYTimes does. I'm sure this one will light up of the messageboards, this one included.

Come on, this one hasn't had time to create a real rivalry, anything like Troy and South Alabama has.

Honestly if realignment gives GS an opportunity to save money I'm in. The Sun Belt nailed it and we're in a much better position than CUSA but again if we can save money it's a better position. Much like a fraternity the current Sun Belt has developed relationships that will bring interest for many years to come when we have the opportunity to play one another. Seems to be a win win. Save money with in conference travel and have OC games that get our motors running with old conference mates. Stinks that the merit of great decisions will be lost to the new reality.

Texas state in the west is a no brainer. South Alabama should go east.

I wasn't comparing South-Troy and UAB-State as rivalries. Just saying that the article mentions how App and UNCC should be in the same conference as well as Troy and UAB but not those two pairs of schools. I don't think people actually realize Atlanta is closer to Birmingham than any Sun Belt team.

You can't look at the list of schools in the East and tell me it's going to be any meaningful savings in travel at least for the 6 Sun Belt schools in Georgia, Alabama, and Carolinas.

Since everyone wants to play carve it to suit my needs I’ll play.

AState, Rice, UNT, UL, LTU, USM, USA, Troy, UAB, GaSt

Hits the AState recruiting areas. Enough to have a title game without the “penalty” in CFP money of going over 10.

RE: Sun-Herald: Pandemic has left little choice. C-USA and the Sun Belt have to realign.
The simple thing about this is the Sun Belt is a better conference with more potential. C-USA rolled the dice and lost. If change is coming I would like the Sun Belt ADs to sit down with ESPN, FOX, CBS, whoever and figure out how we can make the most $$$ long term while only playing games on Saturday and limited games on Thursday (excluding rivalries - no more App/Southern games, etc during the freaking week!).

I strongly believe game day atmosphere builds lasting brands compared to tv views. Build the brand and everything will fall into line. Play on Wednesday with <1m tv views + an empty stadium and all you get is a butt end of a joke.

We have the strongest football conference. A recent baseball champion. A building basketball brand. If Marshall and the other big boys want to talk, make them make an offer!

The Troy/USA “rivalry” is a forced rivalry, it needs to grow more. Currently it’s not a true rivalry. Our only rivals we truly hate are UA’s B (and we will not play each other until 2028) and we are developing a rivalry with Southern Miss (ever since we played in that dramatic New Orleans bowl game in 2008 which went into OT and two more games after that, and we will play each other four more times during this decade). Maybe with the new stadium in Mobile and some more history the USA game can become a rivalry game but it needs to grow more...however atm beating App State and Ark State is more important to us, and maybe GA Southern as well.

RE: Sun-Herald: Pandemic has left little choice. C-USA and the Sun Belt have to realign.
Every time someone writes an article, folks start to divvy up the two leagues. Someone started the rumor that CUSA and the Sun Belt were going to meet concerning realignment. Didn't happen.

What they HAVE done is talk about scheduling alliances, especially as it pertains to Olympic Sports. And, some of the schools in the American have been a part as well.

The biggest priority for AD's for the foreseeable future is so schedule as many teams as possible in non conference where you can bus. And, if you can do it without spending the night, so much the better.

We talk about the issues in the Sun Belt with the outliers (Texas and the Carolinas). Nothing gets solved by splitting the leagues and making El Paso Texas, Miami, FL and Boca Raton, FL (and for some, West Virginia and Virginia) part of the scenario.

It is up to the CEO's of each league to figure out how to do conference play in Olympic Sports. But you don't need a merger or a divide and conquer to get this done.

The Sun Belt is the better league. I think it's funny anytime some CUSA paper wants what we now have though realignment.
