I have to admit: I'm jealous. I would love for Appalachian to play an academy.

South had a H&H with Navy in 2013 & 2014.

Navy won the first game (2013) in Annapolis, 42-14, and the 2014 game was played in
Mobile and Navy won that one 42-40.

Troy played Navy, in Troy, back in 2012 on ESPN College GameDay. The GameDay show was being hosted from the deck of the USS San Diego as a Veterans Day special.

We beat them 41-31 in the national spotlight, despite Corso and Herbstriet picking Navy to win... and that was a Keenan Reynolds-led Navy team.

We originally had a 4 game series with Navy but it was changed to a 2 game series (maybe when the AAC was formed). I’m still bitter at that 42-40 loss. We tied the game on a 2-point conversion, but it was called back because of a phantom penalty from the AAC refs. We then tied the game a second time after another 2-point conversion, but once again USA was accessed a penalty. USA didn’t pick up the third 2-point conversion attempt.

...and I am really jealous that you guys somehow managed to schedule South Carolina at home +I really want to play Marshall again.

Other than that, I am quite pleased with our future schedule, hosting P5 teams (NC State, Miss St), regional opponents (Southern Miss, Memphis, UAB) and a service academy (Army)...

2-for-1 are bad business, that’s why those P5 teams will do it.

It's really a good get for Troy. Troy is actually a real oddity among the teams Army schedules H&Hs with as they're not in a big market and are much more likely to be a handful in a few years than almost all of the non-P5 teams Army has scheduled H&Hs with over the last 5 years.

No. Don’t wish it on yourself. Take it from a trusted “friend”... I’m gonna let the Michigan side of me speak to you honestly and directly, despite whatever longstanding nightmares it may induce for the next several nights within me.

I’d rather go back and play a 4 year contract against App State in their FCS heyday, than currently be playing a yearly service academy (expected to be) sacrificial lamb.

They run unique systems, VERY VERY WELL. You can’t properly prepare for them, so you’ll spend a good chunk of that week prepping for the next week instead. What you do try and prepare for will, come game time, seem absolutely futile, or flat out wrong conceptually.

It’s absolutely gut wrenching, anger invoking, and insanity inducing to have to watch a team with superior talent across the board grind out a win, struggling through the last drive of the game, all because of flawless, superior execution by the opponent.

Don’t do it. Don’t think about it. Move along.

PSA over, you’re welcome.

Playing the Service Academies is a mental a physical grind. You better hope you have a bye week either immediately before or after that game. You have to change defense playing them and are almost guaranteed to loose 1 of your best DEs and OLBs.

The best strategy against them is get the ball first and score early. If they are not down by 2 scores you will never get in a rhythm or get them out of their game plan.

We played Army at home a few years ago. It was fun to have a team with that much history in our stadum. Even more fun when we beat them. BTW they are better now than they were then.

Army was pretty terrible last year.

It's always tough for an academy to win year in and year out...it's a different world for them recruiting wise...
