RE: Flash Basketball 20-21
I saw that yesterday and Rob was not happy about it. I feel like there is no good time for scheduling a basketball game. Honestly, if we do it later, we might not play them at all. I just hope we can have fans there.

THAT'S A TOUGH 5 TO CRACK ... NOT SURE WHICH ONE I WOULD DROP IN FAVOR OF PIPPEN .... (ALTHOUGH I BELIEVE ALL OF THESE KIND OF TEAMS NEED AT LEAST ONE BIG TO BE LEGIT). ALL OF THESE GUYS ARE SENIORS, EXCEPT FOR PRESTON WHO IMO IS THE BEST (MOST COMPLETE) OF THE BUNCH.

Saw ESPN cancelled 8 non-Conference tournaments in the Orlando bubble. It said two might move to another site. Not a good sign.

With the Kent State-Akron basketball game scheduled early for December, we should've tried to get the football game scheduled for the same date - too bad the football game couldn't be last in the schedule. We could have had a double-header!

BASED STRICTLY OFF HIGHLIGHT VIDEOS ---- Rollins and Hornbeak look to be 'possible' 2/3 year starters and 'potential' All-MAC caliber players. Sullinger (no 'D' whatsoever!) a solid 3/yr 6-7-8 man if his shooting translates to D-1.

Curious how you determined Sullinger plays no defense off highlight videos? Highlight videos don't often feature much defense and if they do it's all blocks and steals. Never solid on ball defense.

RE: Flash Basketball 20-21
One other comment I'll add on Sullinger. This is just off highlights and stats, so take it with a grain of salt... But he has as many NBA range or deeper threes in his highlights as any Kent recruit I can remember. That coupled with the exceptionally high shooting percentage tells me he's got serious range. Sendy allows guards freedom to shoot it. So I definitely expect him to be someone that fits into a Sendy team well.

One overall comment on these three. It's tough to know if any of them would've blown up this summer and ended up out of our league if not for covid. I've read that some college coaches are being very conservative in the early signing period for a few reasons. They haven't been able to see how kids are developing in person this spring/summer. They aren't sure if their current seniors will be granted an extra year eligiblity. And they expect a lot of transfers in the spring especially if guys are allowed to play right away, so they want to have scholarships available. So I'm sure this has contributed to the amount of offers these three have received. Also, we're clearly taking the opposite approach since we've filled all our scholarships for next year.

I think the way we approached it was smart. Kids want the security of having signed a LOI with the insecurity of not knowing how many scholarships will be available nationwide. And, in my opinion, any coach who foresees a lot of transfers and wants scholarships available to capitalize is being super arrogant because they're clearly foreseeing a lot of transfers for other team's but their guys all staying, otherwise they'd have scholarships open up. So time will tell if it's a mistake to fill out the scholarships now, but personally I think it was a good move and I'm happy with what I've seen from the guys we got.

One other smart thing... Let's say they do grant an extra year to the seniors and they do to like football where they let the team exceed the scholarship limit for a year. Well, we'll likely have to try to scrounge up money to pay for the additional scholarships. Well, two of these three recruits are in-state residents which would mean less money to raise.

Sulllinger comes from a great basketball background. I'm sure he can, or will be willing to learn, to play good defense.

The KSU roster lists Hamilton as a JR and the RC's article does too but I think that's incorrect. He played 3 seasons at Temple, the fewest games he played in a season were 11 as a Freshman. It will certainly be interesting to see how he fits in though.

Anyone hear any updates on how the injuries are progressing? I believe Pippen and Bennett are recovering from surgeries and Bainbridge was banged up as well. This would make it a lot easier to deal with if those are still lingering.

Two things on Hamilton ... he played less games and less minutes as a freshmen than KB. Pending how KSU asked for his eligibility, it could be by getting his freshman year classified as a redshirt year. That would make him a junior. And since the NCAA has given both FB and BB players an extra year of eligibility, that could make him a junior this year and a senior next.

As for updates ... personally, I have no clue. Haven't heard a thing about this team or its players beyond talent projection. ... I will say this. IF 2020-21 is destined to be a puzzle ... considering the additions for next season and experience from this season...KSUBB 2021-22 should be lethal!

Cleveland, the NCAA "redshirt" regulations for basketball didn't change when football's did. A player cannot play at all to be eligible for a regular redshirt. For a medical redshirt he would have had to have the illness or injury in the first half of the season and not appeared in more than 2 games.

I'll have to do some homework on that ... I thought as long as he played 1/3 of the season or less it could be appealed, especially considering he played so few minutes. Also, didn't the NCAA just give winter sports athletes an extra year of eligibility??

Again, I'll do my homework soon.

It is my understanding that this is a special redshirt year due to convid. This year will not count against eligibility restriction. This is a free year.
