Flash Basketball 20-21
Might as well jump off this thread. Assuming there is a season, we are playing at the University of Minnesota on November 14th.

I hope Rob can get some off season practices in. He has so many new parts especially in the backcourt

What player/storylines is everyone most exciting to see next year?

I think for me it's:
1. Von Cameron Davis and Jeremiah Hernandez. Could be a very exciting young duo to watch grow together.

2. How have Bennett and Bainbridge developed.

3. TK Smith. He looks like a really exciting player.

1) In my mind Davis needs to redshirt, not learn on the fly. Yes, he was POY in Ohio. But look at his recruiting list http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/voncameron-davis;
MAC level and lower. Love his potential, but give him time and room to learn.

Give Hernandez, Nuga, Smith, Jordan, Jacobs, Santiago some room to grow in the heat of battle. A lot of potential individual talent, but none of it truly proven and certainly no chemistry.

2) Will DP be able to deliver numbers/minutes like last year. He's had a lot of surgeries on those knees, and the latest w/o rehap on campus. Expecting him to be a 28-30 minute 15pt/9 reb guy out the gate might be a bit much, particularly when he will be a marked man.

3) Bennett/Bainbridge showed enough to prove they can play. Now can they deliver and produce numbers consistently for 12-15 minutes a game. Is Bainbridge stronger. Is Bennett in shape? If those two, along with Santiago at PG, are productive 12-15 minute players,... THERE'S YOUR BENCH!

4) The wildcard. Based on numbers and highlights, I'm guessing Jacobs will be very solid. But the wildcard could actually be Jordan. He was a Top 35 preseason JUCO before he hurt his back (still finished Top 70), then played sparingly. When he did, Jordan's numbers indicate he was more of a PG than a 3-pt wing (although 3-pt %% remained high).

The way Sendy plays, if Jordan is truly a 6-4 PG, along with 6-4 Jacobs, 6-5 Hernandez and 6-4 Smith, this team could be more special defensively, than offensively on the perimeter, which is saying something. Because, all these guys look like they can score.

Just the thoughts made the palm of my hands sweat. I just love Kent State BB. All of the above questions are vital to the program. This team will take a major coaching job in fitting the pieces. Rob is one of the best at that.

Nice article from Terry Pluto on Davis. I really like the fact that he seems to be very loyal. In an age where kids transfer right and left that's big. It sounds like Sullinger could really help us in recruiting Columbus. I hope they told him his next task is his nephew so get on it! Lol.

Really nice article, sounds like a great “get” for the program, anxious to see him out on the floor.

I just noticed this, Buffalo Bulls men’s b-ball is on probation this year by the NCAA. Did anyone else see this?

Here is the link to the CBS sports story: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbsspor...ments/amp/

Interesting, GoFlashes8. That is the first I heard anything about that. Does being on probation mean they are also ineligible for post-season, or is that a whole different unrelated sanction the NCAA sometimes imposes?

It’s relatively minor. No significant sanctions at all, just a slap on the wrist, and a stern warning that they can’t use the car this weekend and will be grounded if they do it again.

Odd, insignificant sanctions but to me when you’re talking forgeries to gain a player instant eligibility I believe that’s something serious. And for this “The NCAA found no lack of institutional control and commended Buffalo for its cooperation”, I find absurd. Commended them?!?

This is one of those instances where the NCAA rule that was broken could actually be classified as a crime. Usually that's not the case. Remember Rob had his career derailed for patching a coach, who had prior sanctions, in on a phone call with a recruit. Clearly not a crime and wouldn't even be an NCAA violation if the coach didn't have prior sanctions. That sounds comically minor compared to forging documents and signatures. Hey, no one's every accused the NCAA of making any sense though.

The NCAA doesn't rule lack of institutional control unless they are major violations and the hammer is going to be coming down. See Kansas basketball. That said, they are a ridiculously petty and inconsistent organization.

In 2008 Memphis was told Derrick Rose was eligible and played him. After the season they deemed him ineligible saying they sent a letter to his house (in Chicago) saying they questioned his test scores. And then they used the term strict liability to punish Memphis, who BTW, never had a clue any of this was happening.

There are literally hundreds of examples where common sense would prevail but the NCAA ruled differently. If anyone on here can predict the outcome of their investigations, I would conclude you should go be a weatherman on TV.

Exactly what I thought of when reading the article. Rob just made 3-way calls to recruits at the direction of his boss. Didn’t guarantee a recruit, didn’t skirt the guidelines of credibility. To commit forgeries to me is serious business.

Allen Moff had a story on the men's team today.

Only seven players are practicing. All others are hurt or sick, including Pippen, Bennett and Bainbridge.

Story has some updates on the schedule. Tema will play Cleveland State and Detroit, and will host games on Nov. 28 and Nov. 30 but isn't ready to announce opponents. Virginia game is gone. Minnesota game is up in the air.

Here's story:

RE: Flash Basketball 20-21
I know I'm showing my age (75), but just when did basketball become such a dangerous sport? I don't have any statistics, and wouldn't even know how to find them even if i wanted to, but it certainly seems to me that over the years injuries serious enough to cause players to miss games or even seasons have become much, much more common. I think maybe I know some of the reasons. It just seems that today's basketball fan has to concern himself not only with the massive turnover of players coming and going but also who is healthy enough to even play. I'm just venting.

My guess is that a large percentage of these injuries are overuse injuries.

In my neck of the woods I see dozens of middle school aged soccer and basketball players with contraptions on their knees at all times of the year. It frustrates me when I ask one of them what happened and they say....oh I tore my meniscus playing basketball. Wait, its April shouldn't you be playing baseball.

While most would say this is not confirmed ... as a parent and as an sports observer ... I agree with this opinion. Common sense says, at least through junior year in high school, playing multiple sports improves multiple muscle groups as well as taking undue stress off many of those same muscles.
