RE: Games to Watch: WAC 2020-21 Non-Conference Scheduling
Full disclosure: News of the game was accidentally leaked during Episode 3 of the Lopes Insider Podcast when it first released on May 20th. Fans who listened to the podcast right when it dropped were treated to this news before the mistake was realized and edited out. Athletics did an okay job cropping it, but you can still hear where it was cut around the 32:50 mark if you know to listen for it.

A big win for GCU to get ASU in a home-and home series. GCU has home games with Arizona State and San Diego State in 2020-2021. I think both of these games should be on the ESPN family of Networks (ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU). With their fanbase, in that arena, and in that market, just think what they could do if they were playing good basketball.

Seattle is another school that can attract good opponents. Once the New Arena at Seattle Center opens in 2021-2022 (formerly known also as the Key Arena), they will be able to attract quality opponents again. They play Washington every season and they were playing them at the Key Arena every other season. Over the past decade, Seattle has had home games with UW, Washington State, Stanford, Cal, Oregon State, Colorado and Virginia. They have a lot of upside and like GCU and ASU, Seattle and UW are the only D1 schools in Seattle. Also, the market does not have NBA basketball.

I think GCU is also owed a return home game from New Mexico this season, too. Whether or not there will be fans in the stands still remains to be seen. I emailed the box office this week about season ticket renewals. The response I got was that they are "still feeling out capacity mandates from Covid" and there is "no idea on when (they) will have the info (they) need to move forward."

Welcome to 2020. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Seattle U is scheduled to play in the Diamond Head Classic this year with Hawaii, Arizona State, Oklahoma, St Marys, San Diego State, Temple, and Western Michigan.

We know forsure they play at Portland as the last game of a 4-year agreement, and then expect the yearly games with Washington and EWU

That is a nice group of schools. I would imagine they get either ASU or OU in the first game.

On the D1 docket twitter- he has a spreadsheet that has some errors on it, but it shows a couple conference games already. January second Dixie at uvu and January 7 gcu at Dixie. Also shows Dixie has a game at Denver December 12, uvu at byu November 28, uvu opening up at Utah November 10, Denver at uvu nov 14, Dixie at Utah state and Dixie with a home and home against uc davis.

I have to give Dixie St some scheduling props for getting relatively close home games against teams that their fans might care about. Nice job. H/H vs UC Davis is a nice one.
