I honestly thought I had posted this article back at the time, but can't find it, so maybe I didn't. Sorry if it's a duplicate. It's an argument that the Saviors need saving?? (Well, not really..........but you know, it's still to tempting to pile on.)

Changes resulting from Pandemic
The SoCon was better with Davidson and Charleston. I will say the Charleston fanbase was the most obnoxious self important group I’ve ever been around.

RE: Changes resulting from Pandemic
What a big relief and relaxer sports were. Trying to get some of that back with MLB, for example, is a real stretch. Seeing athletes in face masks, social distancing, even gloomy looking while seemingly going through the motions with little or no enthusiasm is a downer. And, no fans to snag fouls and home runs as they bounce off empty seats is a killer. Of course, the fact they’re even out there is an accomplishment. Don’t know how the NBA is shaping up — not a fan. NASCAR racing looks more motivated since they can still go at it mostly all out on the track. But, all are masked up in the pits talking into a microphone on the end of a pole. And can’t even think about football — without all its pageantry, intensity, enthusiasm, et al — if it’s played at all. Done.

The NCAA gives the go ahead for fall sports if a certain set of conditions are followed. Now it will be up to leagues.

They need to just go ahead and cancel all the sports this year. Making these ridiculous set of conditions that havent been proven to make any difference are nonsense.

Or, as others on here have suggested, just keep pushing the start dates
forward, certainly for football, as this thing evolves.

If they are going to keep constantly testing people and then shut things down when tests come back positive then they are just going to be in a constant state of chaos. Either go on as normal or cancel.

That's the problem, no such thing as 'normal' exists.

Any school or division that decides to play, must take every possible safeguard or face massive litagation.

Then cancel the season. If "being safe" means proving no one has contracted the virus with there constant testing then it is an impossible task.

Is it true that the NCAA cannot legally cancel the Division I - FBS football season because of the playoff and bowl setup at that level and all the contracted MONEY involved, while the rest of Division I, Division II & III would have no recourse except to follow an NCAA directive to cancel? Of course the big boys would have VERY MUCH to consider and deal with given the political consequences of their decisions going forward.

The NCAA can only cancel the championships (except for FBS as they dont control that championship) not regular seasons. They have no control over what the schools/conferences do.

Thanks for clarifying that. That, “except for FBS as they don’t control that championship” would seem to indicate that a significant step has already been taken to go independent of the NCAA. And, my guess would be that the Power Five is not interested in bringing the other FBS schools along for the ride. Looking down the road, how long before the NCAA breaks apart, or the Power Five spins off?

I don’t understand why theyre just kicking the can down the road. I just don’t see it happening at all. I’m not sure Dr. Noland wants to play in the fall anyway.

I saw somewhere on Twitter that ETSU was one of the socon schools not really wanting to play this year. Take that for what its worth.

You’re gonna have a hard time telling Samford and VMI that they can’t play this fall considering they’ve already been listed on ACC schedules. $$$$$$

I think the SoCon is doing the right thing right now by not cancelling anything. Due to the possibility of getting paid it is smart to wait to the last minute to cancel if cancelling is what they end up doing.

Or go one week at a time — postpone the coming week’s conference games by Wednesday of that week and move those games to an add on week at the end of the current schedules — repeat weekly as necessary through the last Saturday in April before throwing in the towel. Just a frustrated speculation and a way to tell this COVID-19 where to go. Of course this would not work for teams that had to stay overnight when away, along with all the other logistical complications.
