This is what scares me. It is the NCAA no matter what they call their committee -IARP or whatever it is.

As for IU, maybe they shouldn't have treated one of the 3 or 4 greatest coaches of all time like they did. Knight is a legend.

I'm a HUGE Knight fan, but he got too big for his britches. 2 way street.

Bobby K lost whatever cool he ever had when he threw the chair. Mindless self gratification.

RE: What has happened to Indiana basketball?
Bobby Knight's style worked wonders before the G-league, Europe and 15-man NBA rosters became a thing. He was able to recruit in his backyard and get a ton of talent who wanted to 'play for Coach Knight.'

There are very, very few players and even fewer coaches for whom the phrase 'I want to play for Coach X'. The players who want to play for Calipari see it as 'I want to play for Coach Cal for six months and then go to the NBA'.

When Bobby Knight won his last NCAA in 1987 (three in 11 years...wow that is awesome). Check this out:

23 teams with 11 man-rosters => 253 NBA 'slots'.

China did not have a basketball league, nor did Japan, nor did Korea.

European basketball was still pretty wobbly (especially during the years of 1976 - 1981 when Knight won his first 2 NC's).

Now,

NBA has 30 teams with 15-man rosters => 450 NBA 'slots'
G-league salaries $35k/five months and for select $125k
China, Japan, Korea all have leagues and pay pretty well and are STABLE.
Euroleague has expanded and is very, very stable and well-respected.

There's a lot more non-college options for stud HS basketball players and the thought of playing 4 years for a coach like Bobby Knight isn't gonna happen.

That was the model of Indiana basketball: get a stud HS player out of Indiana, get them to play into Knight's system (freshmen did not get a lot of minutes under Knight's system) and win like crazy.

Isiah Thomas went to IU for 2 years and was pretty much a HS legend and won it all in 1981. Interestingly, he actually wanted to play for Coach Knight and get out of Chicago (remember DePaul USED to be an awesome basketball school and Mark Aguirre - a DePaul player - was drafted #1 in 1981 ahead of Isiah).

Those days are over.

Are we in danger of becoming Indiana?

They have more Sweet 16 appearances in the last decade than we have total NCAAT wins. They were a likely NCAAT team last year while we were basically completely off the bubble.

If anything their fanbase is more worried about them becoming us.

Tough league ... Changes in college ball ... Lofty pedestal ...

It can happen anywhere ... And it's going to get crazy again with this g-league stuff and eventually full NBA acess to the high school 5 stars.

Maybe Indiana ... And Purdue ... Hung on to their OLD HCs (Knight & Keady) too long. Our problem was an AD who was asleep at the wheel ... Oh , Cal ain't going anywhere ... No need to be prepared ... Ahhhhhhhhhh !!!

Indiana just had their 5-star 2021 PG Khristian Lander reclass to 2020 and Trayce Jackson-Davis is returning after basically putting up similar numbers to Precious as a freshman in the Big 10.

This thread looking worse by the day..
