Very true. Unless we are sheep, we all have life experiences which form our opinions. I will return to my focus back on sports now. We as Aggies have our personal differences but we are all diehard Aggie sports fans; the bond that binds us.

MLB Pitcher “I Won’t Take Pay And Risk My Life To Play Baseball”

“It’s not worth it. I love baseball and that, but it’s just not worth it.”

MLB has pitched a reopening plan to the MLB Players Association, but wants players to take a further pay cut from the pro-rated rates agreed upon in April for a season expected to be shortened to about 82 games per club — if it can be played at all.

Joe Buck: If NFL games don't have spectators, Fox might add CGI fans, crowd noise to broadcasts

My apologies if I took this off topic. I thought I was stating my opinion of a post that had already gone off topic and moved into the realm of politics. I understand that the guy that usually throws the second punch often gets in trouble. I knew that would happen, but still felt it was important enough to state my concerns. I teach adjunct for a FCS school/Southland Conference member... there’s pressure to come back in fall in time for football. Many of my classes this term had baseball players and they were all pretty bummed. Taking online classes and not hitting the field. Awful senior season... many don’t want to come back for their final year of eligibility as grad students. Can’t blame them.

They're already done. TcU and Bama were supposed to open the schedules against USC AND UCLA. Supposedly those games are off and they are trying to schedule eachother.

There are thoughts that the entire west coast will call it.

Yes, I do think GCU will be meeting face-to-face in the Fall. GCU has not made any definitive plans but there have been lots of meetings. I think they are leaning towards the following:
(1) Opening while still allowing concerned students the option of attending class virtually
(2) Creating a Covid-19 health center that could handle up to a 1,000 cases if needed (basically preparing for the worst case possibility)
(3) Allowing professors who are among the most vulnerable population (over 65, pre-existing conditions) to teach virtually with an instructional assistant (IA) hired to meet with students face-to-face.
(4) implementing social distancing in classrooms
(5) not holding the Monday chapel (6,000+ attending), the Tuesday gatherings (smaller chapel times), or other large events (like welcome week)
(6) limited to no fans at sporting events

I know the all the colleges in State of Washington are expecting to go back to on campus learning but who really knows how that looks or if will go off as they plan. Concordia Univeristy-Irvine will be going back to campus learning this fall too as a reference for CBU possibly.

One piece of pressure on the PAC is University of Oregon basically promising to do what the Washington schools are doing. Color me cynical... Oregon might be financially motivated to preserve the home game with Ohio State this fall. With fans? Really, there’s no business taking that risk. Playing football? Really shouldn’t.

I read one article this morning focused on “non-revenue” sports contemplating how to operate, offering various opinions and ideas. Gymnastics talking about having virtual meets (a competition on Zoom might have me chuckle a bit). Soccer programs are gathering a database and talking about scrapping conference formats in favor of playing schools only within bus drive distance. THAT is the rub when it comes to maintaining play in the WAC... social distancing on planes is a joke. Anyone chartering in this conference?

I should also note that the Big Sky made a statement saying they expect their schools to pretty much choose their own paths this year. I have NO idea where Portland State (for instance) stands on this, though I could make jokes about social distancing not being a problem with their normal attendance.

BTW- I thank the moderator and the rest of you for leaving up the “political argument” to be read. I might take an “everything is political” stance on things at time, so perhaps I’m predisposed, but it’s important to bring the issues to the fore. That’s especially true now. In the space of the last two weeks, the hospital I work for went from 0 to 27 employees (and 4 additional patients) diagnosed. It’s easy to forget how fast this virus is capable of “moving” if you’re not careful, and even if you are careful. If you find my stance of “you have no business playing” to be a bit much, that’s my answer to you.

I think with the politics, the pandemics and college sports seemed to be on topic. There are a lot of pressure from families with kids who have health issues, faculty with health issues, student athletes with health issues, and doctors and scientists learning new things about this virus want sports not to go on or have classes this fall. There are way too many people with health problems that could die, and these colleges and universities will become the nursing homes with outbreaks. People with no health problems are not safe from this virus and they wind up on the ventilators and some do die. It could be people who smoke that could be hit the hardest.

Washington and Washington State expect students on campus this fall. However athletics there won't be fans there.
