Said the team could be there for up to 5 weeks, which would cover the OOC. NMSU used their Arizona Bowl connections to make this happen (Nikki Balich). Team will arrive tonight at 9:30. Have already left.

A lot of items (the basketball court in particular) were donated. $78k for the rooms, disinfecting and testing. AZ Bowl connection made this happen. $21k for the food. Travel costs to the resort are TBD. Not sure where the games will be played, yet. 4 star resort but got a rate of $105 a night. Access to the court 24/7.

Shooting to have first game next week. Minors BB schedule released today, but still working to get NMSU on the schedule. Hopes to start off playing a couple of D2 Arizona schools. Still working on 4 rival games.

NMSU pays $20k a month to rent the PanAm ($240k a year). Plus security, travel expenses, etc. Will save on all of that being in the bubble.

MM broke down crying several times. Said this is a huge load off his shoulders. Said he had promised all these kids they were going to get to compete at NMSU.

MM is gonna set up some fund raising activities for us to help contribute to this effort.

I wish this had been done 2 weeks ago, so they could get more practice time in.

Im not sure how great this is since Arizona Grand will be hosting AAU tournaments in the same ballrooms that these untested AAU squads will be hooping and staying in the same hotel. I'll be down there with 5 of our AAU teams playing in these ball rooms.

From everything that has been reported, NMSU is not sharing a ballroom with anyone. A court was donated specifically for NMSU to use. From there rooms to the ballroom they will not come in contact with any of the resorts guests. Essentially a bubble.

RE: The Covid Effect
Great news that NMSU found a work-around.

It wouldn't be a real WAC season without the big bad wolf.

RE: The Covid Effect
Im not sure how many ballrooms the resort has but to say there will be in a bubble with ppl at the resort that aren't being covid tested seems like a hail mary. I really hope it works without issue. As being in a bubble its mentally tough and can break down ppl as we saw with the NBA bubble. I would imagine it will be more of an issue with the staff and not so much with the players.

In the Zoom conversation, it was pointed out that the Aggie team will be located on the 1st floor of the resort as to not use public elevators. The ballroom that will be outfitted with a college basketball court will have outside access so players can access the facility away from the general public. The Resort is supposed to sanitize the rooms frequently and the players will be Covid tested three times a week. I can't imagine the resort occupancy will be all that high with the current Covid environment. A lot of service industry businesses are hurting to make money right now.

And, through perusing the Resort website, I can only assume the ballroom that will be used is the Canyon Ballroom which dimensions are 149-ft. X 135-ft. with 31-ft. ceilings. The Resort has a numbers on ballroom that can support having a basketball court installed but the Canyon Ballroom has the highest ceiling on site. The other possible ballrooms have a maximum ceiling height of 21-ft. The situation is not ideal but given the Covid restrictions in New Mexico, this is the best option for NMSU to compete in the 2020-21 season. Now it is importance that the players and support staff stay away from the general public and try to not frequent high use areas at the Resort.

Was told by the resort that the Nike Tournament of Champions is still being hosted throughout December and that the top divisions will play on resort so that's 48 teams each weekend and then adding in the other not top divisions teams that are staying on site as well. I was told roughly around 80 to 120 total teams to participate each weekend will be staying there. There are 2 ballrooms that can hold 2 courts. Canyon is one of them when asked about which ballroom AAU will be using they said Canyon but could change, but being that that ballroom has has courts in it since before the 1st weekend of November and NMSU's courts were being installed I'd imagine they will be in the other ballroom? Lastly NMSU still doesn't have a game venue lined up but should fined something soon. I think like everyone they will land at GCU but possibly using Antelope Gym. Other issue would be stream/broadcast of aggievison would be easier at GCU imo than just about anywhere else. They have plenty of options for sure.

I also noticed the the Resort has large outdoor areas where a basketball court could be installed and be housed by a large tent structure; commonly used for outdoor weddings. Maybe the Resort will use its' outdoor areas in this manner to accommodate the AAU event?

I don't know how far along the Phoenix Mercury got in renovating the Veteran's Memorial Coliseum before the WNBA season got upended, but that could be another cool game venue in Phoenix that is easy to access from the AZ Grand Resort. The renderings of what the Coliseum was supposed to look like after renovations were pretty cool --> https://arenadigest.com/2019/07/25/mercu...-coliseum/

I saw Foo Fighters/Queens of the Stone Age play there during the state fair. $10.

Doubtful and that NMSU has only 2 courts to practice on is plenty. The resort won't want to lose income hosting AAU outdoors. Its a fun idea in all honesty but teams would dip quick on that.s

The Saddle! Longtime Phoenician told me he saw the Celtics win a title in that building back in 70's..

I also noticed the the Resort has large outdoor areas where a basketball court could be installed and be housed by a large tent structure; commonly used for outdoor weddings. Maybe the Resort will use its' outdoor areas in this manner to accommodate the AAU event?

You had a lot of questions and speculations about the ballroom and courts. Check out the end of this video for a glimpse of the 2 basketball courts set up for NMSU.

Based on the fact that the practice facility has two full sized basketball courts (end-to-end), it looks like the Aggies are using the Grand Ballroom which is 200-ft X 100-ft with 21-ft ceiling height. I am glad NMSU has a place to workout. I just hope the lower ceiling heights won't effect our player's shooting touch (depth perception) when they play in (adjust to) a true arena; with more expansive space. But I'm sure it won't be too big a concern.

I was worried about ceiling height as well and the first shot of the courts kinda shocked me. It lookes like the ceilings weren't very high. But when the camera pans out, you see a player shooting and he has ample ceiling height. I don't think McCants could make a half court shot in there, but you don't need to in practice.
