No cuts for us, but voluntary pay reductions for President Smith, Wetherbee, Creighton, Murphy, and Castro, plus other hours reduction for staff.

Dear Friends,
Interesting that the Central Board makes no mention of this development as of 3:00 p.m.

One thing is certain. EMU's SAPC and CMU's Champions Center were fortunate to get the shovel in the ground BEFORE this happened. I don't see any MAC sports program endeavoring into a major cap-ex program anytime soon.

Hopefully the St. Joes bubble has at least five years life left.

Amen Jerry. I was thinking the same.

Quote:When Central Michigan discontinued men's indoor and outdoor track and field to save more than $600,000 annually, its athletic department dropped to five all-male teams, one below the threshold to maintain Football Bowl Subdivision status.

Athletic director Michael Alford doesn't have a guaranteed fix for that. Instead, he's banking on positive news from the NCAA in the coming weeks.

“There’s a plan that would allow us to work through a waiver period as we continue to research and return the department to full compliance,” Alford said. “That waiver has been submitted. They meet weekly, and I anticipate an answer pretty quick.”

According to NCAA bylaw 20.9.9.1, CMU would be forced to leave the FBS if the waiver is denied, but Alford has "various models to make sure we are at full compliance coming up this year.”

He did not share those plans.

Remember how ticked EMU folks were at Weatherbe when he made cuts? CMU folks must be super outraged.

Not MAC related, but ECU is cutting 4 sports (men's and women's swim and dive + men's and women's tennis).

Interesting that our thoughts have support in D-1 baseball coaches.
