I'm surprised that Temple needs OLineman. Looks like the AAC is playing this fall. Brinkman had to go, could not risk not playing a season.

I thought you all in on Ham and blamed all bad on Carey?

I'll be brutal honest, I sometimes get a bad vibe from Hammock. He deserves 2 more years to prove it, not sold on it anymore though. We will see.

Boy, MD, since we are in year ten of Monty getting to prove something, I think you are being a little harsh. You're losing that soft façade that you put forth.

I read too much into things sometimes. I know this is probably a totally inaccurate view, but just from a distant view, I almost get the impression Hammock has a coaching style more inline with the NFL than one you need with college players. Does that make any sense?

Nope. Nick Saban is not available.

Our starting center was drafted by the Falcons in the 3rd round.

Maybe getting rid of all these players will be a blessing in disguise. Just like in the mid to late 90s, get rid of all the quitters, and build from ground up

Agreed on your oberservation. Also, what sort of identity is Hammock going for. Novack led Huskie..strong o line backs, tight ends.

Coach Kill, Coach Doreen,, and Coach Carry dual threat QBs with lots of motion, and deception.

After viewing last years offense, have no clue what Hammock is shooting for...teams need an identity..he seems to be all over the place.

I agree, though it's hard to tell from one year. I asked this in a previous post, I am not sure, does he want a dual option QB? Or a pocket passer? Or does it just depend on what QB is willing to commit? I also don't really know what he is looking for. Just speed? We definitely have been missing that in most areas on the field.

The defense has been trending downward since 2012 IMO. Sutton Smith, coupled with a few linebackers arrested the downfall temporarily, but now they're gone. Hopefully Hammock can put a stop to that - if we can play football in the fall.

This is true. I think some of it is just not having that stud QB to help you develop something. And really, not a stud RB that is a playmaker. Huff might have been that for a couple years if he had played more.

We generally do. Hennessy went to the Falcons in the 3rd and will likely start after Alex Mack retires. Starting LG Jovahn Fair was a UDFA for the Chiefs. We have some veterans, and also picked up Dayton transfer Michael Niese who will compete to start, but we generally try to avoid FR/R-FR starters on the OL. We were going to move someone to C before we got Perez.

Not only this, but...and I can't precisely remembrer...but I'd bet just about anything that the "identity" of the Novak era wasn't obvious after his first season.

I wouldn’t call it “getting rid of quitters”. Each one leaves for their own personal reasons. Nothing to do with Hammock. Some have an opportunity that they wanted to take advantage of. Others for school or family etc. I understand disappointment that they leave but I hate the negativity in response. Many players that leave love it here. Those that leave because they don’t like it here are no loss and good riddance. This isn’t the case with this group or many of other grad transfers. Can’t fault them for taking advantage of a rule or a better circumstance. I wish them the best. If Hammock can recruit like he’s expected to we will be fine.

"getting rid of quitters" is a terrible description of these players. They played some outstanding FB for NIU. They want to ensure they are playing this fall. Summer camp opens up in a 2,3 of weeks at the new schools. Meanwhile the State of IL is debating whether to open up and is in extremely weak financial position.

Novak went 1-10, 0-11, 2-9 his first 3 seasons so I would imagine he wasn't winning to many fans over.
