They did well. They will have set kickoff times well in advance and can tell recruits straight up to expect 8-9 games on national sports networks.

I expect you'll see a lot of UConn and Army leading into each other in the early time slots before the MW takes over around 5 eastern. A regular schedule of Saturday afternoon kicks between 12-3 is pretty much ideal.

You could get all three academies and UConn packaged into one solid day of football viewing on a Saturday. Example: 03-idea 03-shhhh

1 PM - Army - National or CBSS
3 PM - UConn - CBSS, B-10 (Indiana), ACC (Virginia / NC), SEC (Ole Miss)
5 PM - Navy away AAC West - ESPN or CBSS
7PM - Eastern - Air Force - ESPN or a MWC channel
04-cheers

Navy's home games will be on CBSSN at 3:30 (with one picked up for Disney primary rights - probably Houston or Memphis this year).
Army's Home games will be on CBSSN at noon.

For the four UConn games listed, three dates have neither Army nor Navy at home. 26 September, though, CBSSN will have the Sooners visiting Michie at noon and then Temple at Navy at 3:30. Indiana at UConn could be evening, or that is the Friday evening possibility alluded to in the Hartford Courant article.

OU-Army might be on the CBS broadcast network rather than CBSSN.

I hadn't considered that possibility.
SEC slate that week includes four conference games, and six visits from non-contract-bowl-conference teams, a couple of which could be interesting.

That has always been my one qualm when asked over the past 5-6 years whether I, as a Big East fan, wanted UConn to "come home". Of course I did, to me they belong in the Big East. But I also know that UConn doesn't feel that way anymore. For all other Big East programs, the Big East is their destination conference, but for UConn it will always be a Power-5 conference, specifically either the ACC or B1G. So they will always have one eye on the door, and that makes them suspect.

UConn is kind of like the 17 year old kid who runs away from home with some bravado, vowing never to come back, but six months later he shows up on the doorstep, looking scraggly and sheepish and asking if his old room is still empty. Yes, you're glad the prodigal son is back so you welcome him in, but you also know as soon as he gets some home cooking in him and a few good night's sleep, the restlessness will arise, because the underlying reasons he left to begin with are still down there for him.

And if anything, the success of the UConn AD in keeping FBS football viable has made that restlessness far more likely. It's ironic that if the AAC fanboys who hate both the Big East and UConn had been right - if UConn had been forced to drop football entirely or move down to FCS - the stability of their Big East membership would be much greater than it now will be.

As always, Quo, very well presented. The point you make about the AAC fanboys is interesting. There is an element of irony, indeed.

I would also argue that there seemingly are some pro-Big East types and fans in general who believe that UConn will see this "return" to the league as a "alright, everything is back to normal for the Husky athletics program" situation — failing to either realize or acknowledge that UConn is returning to a Big East that lacks ND, Louisville, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, WVa and BC.

I think UConn knows what they are joining. Remember, the Big East was the Big East long before ND, Rutgers, WVA and Louisville joined. They were never essential.

Of the remainder schools, BC is missed somewhat, Pitt a little. Only Syracuse is greatly missed. That's the Big East POV on those schools and I doubt UConn thinks differently.

Trust me...if we could make ACC money or close to it... I'd rather be back in the 2010 Big East.

I enjoy ACC football quite a bit (but I also loved BE games too) but outside Duke and to a lesser degree UNC, none of the ACC basketball teams move the needle like old BE games.

I remember well when DePaul, Louisville and Cincy joined the BE. I was rather excited (notwithstanding the fact that Memphis got left behind).

The glory days of the BE are long gone but I remain very impressed with how well the current BE has reinvented itself. I feel UConn will simply add to that momentum in a positive way.

I don’t think the glory days are gone. With UConn in the fold, current members will have won 4 of the last 10 national championships.

I like it. The specific financials of the agreement have yet to be released,(Rumor is just over 1M for the four years without the SNY $$) but UConn will see savings in one key area: production costs. Under the old AAC deal that had a role in driving UConn out of the conference, schools were responsible for productions costs on anything going onto ESPN-plus. Under this deal, the network will cover them.

The other six independent FBS football programs, only three others are on linear television. Notre Dame...NBC, BYU....ESPN and Army...CBS Sports as well. UMass and New Mexico State both have deals with FloSports while Liberty has an agreement with ESPN+. The next item on the to-do list is bowl tie-ins.

Congrats to Uconn!

Excellent point about the on-court success still yielding glory for the Big East. Agree fully. It's a "new-found glory" in the latest chapter of an ever-evolving novel (one could say).

But for me, the BE "glory days" went well beyond winning and to these factors:

1. Having Cincy, DePaul and Louisville (all three of which I cheer for due to personal and/or family reasons) in the BE as a trio. That was special.

2. The Big East offering football (which I always enjoyed watching)

3. Having Syracuse, Boston College and Pitt in the league (my brother-in-law is from Erie and his nephew attends UofP). I liked the "heft" those three Northeast schools gave the league.

4. How the Big East was so overwhelmingly better than the other power leagues that when an SEC fanboy (I live in Nashville) began blathering about how great Kentucky, Arkansas and/or Florida were back then ... I could shut him up fast.

So in those four respects, the "Big East glory days" are long gone for me. I like the league as configured now but it's just not the same. Congrats on returning. It's a good time to be a Husky fan.

Bill, I'm starting to think it would be a shorter list if you listed the college teams east of the Mississippi River that you *don't* root for. 07-coffee3

Of all the playful jabs various posters have nicely delivered regarding my multi-program fanship, this might be my favorite. Very nicely done, Wedge. I chuckled out loud.

I think the current version of the Big East is awesome. Villanova is a great anchor, and the rest of the league is extremely cohesive. They're really impressive, especially considering they get about a tenth of the media revenue as compared with most P5 leagues.

Also, two thirds of the classic 1980's Big East will be there once UConn returns. Only Syracuse, BC, and Pitt won't be there.

Would be even better if Georgetown and St. John's could play their way out of the Wednesday night bracket at MSG every year.

Agree. The current Big East isnt the same as the old---but its darn good--and more importantly, its basically the kind of league they always really preferred. I think the schools involved--as well as their fans---will really enjoy it. Frankly, from a fan standpoint---being in a conference that you really care about and enjoy---well, thats really all you can ask for.

Excellent point. This iteration of the BE is very strong and UConn will simply add to the vibrancy.

On that note, A-Coog, I have, indeed, grown to enjoy following the American. Lots of positive things happening to the (and within the) league.

I still want to see the AAC get back to 12 in both sports (and, in many respects, would prefer 14 in both, or at least hoops).

RE: [split] UConn football deal with CBS Sports Network
One of the great things about the present Big East is the uniformity and like-minded institutions. Since 2012, we have all been in this together. BE fans genuinely root for other BE programs and want them to succeed (even DePaul, which has our lone tournament-exempt program), until they play each other. In the OBE, there were a few programs that it always seemed fans to chose to root against.

Bottom-line, all the BE programs want to be here and aren't going anywhere. They know that. Having a conference when you know members aren't always looking at the neighbor's grass has been a welcome breath of fresh air.

Looking forward, as all BE fans are, to UConn's return, where they belong. Will make the BE even more competitive and stronger in college basketball.

Nobody on this board presents this theme (the importance and effectiveness of BE cohesion and shared values) better than GW11.

Of all the DI leagues in America, perhaps only the Ivy League exhibits such traits more effectively.

It truly is a major plus for the present Big East (and, as noted, was perhaps not as evident in some past league iterations).

Doubt it. Ohio st played on cbs sn not cbs
Notre dame played on cbs sn for the af game too
