And yes, there are tons of terrible former players as announcers. A lot of them are assigned our games on ESPN3.

I could not think of anyone else. You got someone better, roll out a name.

He got that job in the NBA then got fired if I remember correctly. I enjoyed him on the radio.

He was involved with Zedd's auctioneering for a while too. Hope Cal is doing well.

He appears to be. He still lives in Atlanta. Does some work in the film industry and still does some stuff with the Hawks. This all according to his FB posts.

With the close proximity of the two organizations you'd think WHRO would have much more ODU centric programing, internships etc. How about a Jeff Jones coaches show?

I did a handful of games on WHRO between 2004-05. Production crew was good, but didn't have the clock bugs, etc.

Never understood why WHRO, which basically shares a parking lot with the school, wasn't utilized more. Would have done wonders for the school's communications and broadcasting programs, which was basically student-run and hands on back in the day. Who knows what WODU is like these days, other than its Spreaker stream.

Last I saw WODU was a tiny room near the food court with most of the music catalog on a computer. No idea about the broadcast quality or listenership. But the space lacked the heart and soul of the place you and I knew. Quite sterile. They still have a variety of diverse programming but seem to focus a lot on rap rather than college rock/alternative these days. Supposedly there is a tv element now too, so maybe there’s another studio or something.

Disappointing. It was rag-tag back in the day, but I think you coined it well in terms of the "heart and soul." It's been an afterthought since before I left when the transmitter on top of BAL was cut off and no one bothered to tell anyone at the station for six months.

Thats crazy that they didnt tell you. I never heard that. Man, WODU and the Mace & Crown were my absolute favorite parts of going to ODU. I made so many friends and had so much fun being a part of those two groups. Great memories.

Two of my three favorites. The school ripped away the other one. The whole thing is a case study in how to half-ass everything.

I only worked at the Mace and Crown for a semester before I dropped out to focus on writing for the Pilot, but they seemed like a good bunch of folks. I loved my time at the Commonwealth Times, VCU's newspaper. Student media is (or was) like the Greek system for nerds, but whether you liked people or hated them, you knew you were with your tribe.
