Exclamation 2020 Football Schedule
Can't sleep. So, to help me get back to sleep, here's a look at our 2020 schedule with the [2017], [2018], and [2019] records of each opponent and road games in bold...

Austin Puke [No need]
Western Michigan [6-6][7-6][7-6]
Miami, OH [5-7][6-6][8-6]
Nebraska [4-8][4-8][5-7]
South Florida [10-2][7-6][4-8]
BYE
Tulsa [2-10][3-9][4-8]
Southern Methodist [7-6][5-7][10-3]
Memphis [10-3][8-6][12-2]
Houston [7-5][8-5][4-8]
East Carolina [3-9][3-9][4-8]
Central Florida [13-0][12-1][10-3]
Temple [7-6][8-5][8-5]

The overall 2019 winning percentage of our opponents is 76-64 [.543].

The overall 2019 winning percentage of home opponents is 31-32 [.492].

The overall 2019 winning percentage of road opponents is 45-32 [.584].

My gut says we will go into the BYE week 5-0. Our undefeated season will come down to the road game at UCF. Just the way we want it...

2020 Football Schedule
I just hate the idea of potentially having to play UCF twice to win the conference. Especially if we have to visit them on the road each time.

Otherwise this is a manageable schedule and I think 13-0 is a possibility.

i get the apprehension but it comes down to how well each team replenishes their depth charts. imo the biggest losses are Wright, heart and soul of our D and made big plays, and Deguara, who seemed like the only one who was able to consistently convert his targets from Ridder. Warren is a big loss but i like the depth of our RB position group and Doaks quite frankly was/is good enough to be RB1. i don't think the drop off is going to be that significant. Ferguson is also a loss but i feel that we are going to have a big boost having Hudson all season long. i think we'll be able to adequately replace all our other losses (Morgan James, Perry Young and Medaris).

UCF looks like they suffered heavy losses in terms of key starters. i'm interested in seeing what they look like coming back. As far as the potential for playing them twice in a season, it does give me pause that we play them so late in the season. Given their losses i would love to have played them earlier. By the time we get them, their new starters will have gotten virtually a seasons worth of snaps.

UCF has to go on the road against Houston and Memphis. We could see 3 teams with one loss in conference this year.😎

True. And if the previous double standard is applied, a conference loss or two is acceptable for P5 teams but unacceptable for a G5 team playing in the American. The result could put a less deserving Boise State or Sun Belt/MAC champ in the NY6 bowl.

UC will have a fine team this year but the pathway to the NY6 bowl remains more challenging than some want to believe. It (nearly) requires running the table in conference because of the G5 stigma. That's a tall order, as strong as the American is.

Houston should be much improved this year. They had a lot of young guys and a number of P5 transfers who were not illegible last year coming back. SMU also is a team to watch again.

UCF is still a very good program, but this is not the same program that Scott Frost coached. Vegas released odds at winning the AAC and had UCF as even money. If I were a gambler I'd be willing to wager the field this year.

Ferguson may be a loss in the locker room but he struggled mightily on the left side last season. Hudson looked to be a quantum leap better in the bowl game snaps he got. The line can be greatly improved this year as long as they can find a top right guard replacement from the current stable...hopefully another offseason of development helps our inexperienced but talented RT to not get torched on inside moves and center to learn not to just grab and be stronger than the guy across from him.

Biggest losses IMO were at LB with Wright and Young moving on.

I agree. I thing we may be the better team but having to go there is tough. We have the right formula to beat them with our defense and physical running game but winning on the road usually requires a little more dynamic offense. We're going to need better play from the QB and WR groups; whether that's from new personnel or improvements of returning personnel.

The jury is still out on Heupal. Frost had one 6 win year and one 13 win year. Heupal has a 12 win year and a 10 win year. So it's kinda tough to say the UCF program has fallen.

Bolded, yep. The crowd at Nippert factored into last year's win. It was a very competitive game and the 'Cats were energized at times by the home crowd while the Knights were a little dazed and confused in the red zone. Flip that script for Orlando and we better have some well thrown balls to capable receivers or it could be a frustrating loss again.

They lost 3 games by one possession starting a true freshman QB. They were probably the best team in the conference last year (or right there with Memphis). They are going to be a handful again this year.

2020 Football Schedule
A few of the guys I talked to said that the Bounce House in 2018 was a far more difficult environment to play in than the 2017 Big House. I imagine it will be even worse this time around.

RE: 2020 Football Schedule
I believe we're the best team in the AAC this year. Homer glasses aside, think about this...for the first time in forever we have a coach that has stayed past three seasons AND the trajectory in to the fourth season remains double digit wins. Let that sink in. Seriously. We have a coaching staff that has avoided the two-step shuffle out the door so our players have enjoyed continuity of systems, schemes, and teaching styles. The players also love playing for the coaches and for each other. Talent, depth and returning starters included, these are all good signs of where we've come, where we are, and where we can go. I also think the double game losses to Memphis last year will be a yuge motivator this season. Win the regular season to host the AAC chip game will no doubt be the overriding goal implanted in the team's collective head.

In terms of winning at UCF, I like our chances this season way more than I did two seasons ago. That said, it may work itself out that even if we lose in Orlando we still end up hosting the AAC chip game.

As long as Holgs is coaching Houston, I will not worry too much.

Holgs is a less capable "Dave Wannstedt." He can't beat good teams and chokes in the clutch. With both, you wonder how they get the recruits they do and later wonder how those teams with those guys on them didn't beat the world.

Holgs' ceiling is 8 wins... with at least half of those coming against the expected bottom feeders. His teams will lose AT LEAST two "WTF" games every season.

No worries as long as he's there.

He definitely has some traits possessed by our former Granddaddy Sniff. Eerily similar to leaving the P5 to coach in the "minor leagues" too. Houston will regret the hire soon coupled with the big pay.

I thought Houston fired coaches for winning only 8 games. 05-stirthepot

Some athletic directors and school presidents never learn. You always take the young up-and-comer with something to prove over the potential for "stability." In our case, we got incredibly lucky and have a mixture of both with Fickell.
