Played at Clay-Chalkville. I wonder if we pursued him at all. Wish we could get a talented transfer in our QB mix. Not sure we have what we need at that position.

I think we're very talented on QB. TJIII tries to force some stuff, but I personally put a lot of that on scheme. FWIW everyone else on the team thinks Lucero is going to be amazing.

We haven't had what I would consider a talented, athletic QB since Joe Webb and that's been quite a while. TJ3 may turn into an All-conference player but right now he's not. I also have my doubts about him staying healthy for a full season. Hopkins doesn't have the arm or explosive speed.

Hope you're right and Lucero is the real deal. Would like to have seen us pick up a grad transfer or juco that could immediately compete for the job.

The main issue I saw with TJ3 was the inability to have an effective run game. The poor OL fun blocking forces the offense to become one dimensional. That led him to make some stupid decisions trying to win games. If we can develop an average run game that will take a lot of pressure of TJ3. In theory that would improve his decision making process

To me, the inability to run the ball lost us several games last year.

It’s not just one thing. It’s a combination of things and lack of running game was big. No time to throw. Then throw in starring down primary receivers and panicking when they are covered. Improve the o line, running game, more time, game slows down for him and he makes his reads. It’s a process.

The quality of O-line play is the key to any success at RB or QB since neither can perform well when running for their life or planted on their backside by the other team's DL or blitzing DBs. If a team is to win, that is where the victory begins.
