The one thing i kept hearing why we bolted for the WAC instead was it offered a higher ceiling. The SLC is stagnant, and the WAC is a more dynamic situation.

I think we will methodically address all of the well-known facility issues, but it will take some time. Good news is Hurley gets it. First on the list in my mind is the baseball/softball complex. They need to scrap the whole thing and take a hard look at lesser schools like Weatherford college and step it up. I feel sorry for that new baseball coach trying to recruit D1 talent.

If you think y'alls baseball stadium is bad y'all should see UTSAs03-lmfao

I had to look up pictures of it. If what I saw is accurate, my HS baseball stadium puts theirs to shame.

Same and I went to a 1A, now 2A, school.

Same.
Aside from a Rented Alamodome, UTSAs facilities are terrible. The only they have going is that they are willing to rent the city's minor league ball park for some big name games.

Tarleton wont have that option unless we do something in fort worth

RE: Opinion: SLC misses opportunity with Tarleton
So, Tarleton wouldn't accept a SLC invitation in a few years?

I think it depends on covid and how the money situation is looking. The SLC offers a bus league and a home for football.

TARLETON and The A&M System believes the WAC has better history, opens Tarleton to new markets. It seems to have better ESPN+ and fewer mouths to feed.

If the WAC drags its butt developing a football league, we might have to go slum it in the SLC.

Tarleton would accept a Southland invite as soon as it’s offered one.

Every school that’s in the WAC is in the WAC because they’ve yet to attain an invite to their desired league.

There was a time that statement was absolutely true. No doubt about it. Our AD really wanted the Southland, and made public claims the SLC really wanted Tarleton. Our AD sold our new Prez on the SLC and that an invite was imminent. Our D1 feasability study, which weighed joining the WAC vs SLC, was so heavily (and purposely) skewed toward joining the SLC it was ridiculous. Yes, all indiciators pointed to a long-awaited Tarleton/Southland marriage. Then, all of the sudden, the SLC comes out and says they have no plans to expand. Next thing you know A&M/Tarleton's top brass are up in Denver getting cozy with Hurd. A few days later Angelo State breaks the news Tarleton is leaving the LSC. We may never really know what went on behind the scenes, but it looked and felt like the SLC did us dirty. Couple that with the A&M Chancellor very much preferring the WAC (exposure, academics), we just might be here for a while, even if the SLC comes calling again. We might, though, have to join as a football-only if the WAC doesn't scrounge up enough football playing schools. I prefer us in the WAC.

I'm not so sure about that anymore. I think the SLC will come knocking, but we might not take it. I know this: nothing will happen until our probation is over. That gives us enough time to see if the WAC is a viable long-term home. If the hypothetical scenario where WTAMU, ACU and a few other LSC or SLC teams bolt for tbe WAC, there would be zero reason to leave.

I don't see how any person can think the current WAC is a better situation than the SLC. As someone else said it's literally a conference that no member wants to be in and any given school would bolt the first chance the opportunity presents itself.

I guess that leads to these questions- Are there any SLC schools looking to move up in football? How likely are any LSC schools going to move to D1? It would take 7 schools to form a 10 team football WAC. If you could get the three CA football school in the Big Sky to move up, the WAC would be the perfect conference!

All you need is 8: Tarleton, Dixie, nmsu, WTAMU, Angelo, ACU, N AZ, S UT. UTRGV starting football, UTPB, Commerce, MSU, opportunities are endless. I'd love to see Tarleton and the other LSC elite throw up a big middle finger to the SLC when the Louisiana and Arkansas schools crumble.

An eight team conference will always be an issue, if a school gets raided or drops football, you're screwed.

10 teams gives room in case a school gets raided. Plus you will get 9 games and 3 non conference games. Interesting idea about the southern Big Sky schools moving up. SUU and DSU would be travel partners, NAU and NMSU. I don't see UTRGV starting football now or within the next few years. What school is MSU? Metro St doesn't have football.

Sooner or later UTEP will go to the Mt West. They are an outliner in CUSA and would give Mt West 12 teams. If CUSA adds Texas St. that's four schools- Rice, UNT, UTSA and Texas St. with a few hours of each other. So, who replaces Texas St. in the Sun Belt?

More travel in the WAC though plus SLC has football in more than a hypothetical future scenario. I really don't see why we wouldn't considering we were so going ho on the SLC previously.

Have you seen their football stadium and attendance? Both are literally worse than yalls. They averaged like 4k last season. Not even sure theyd be competitive in the SB or CUSA in football. They have a nice baseball stadium though.

Maybe S Utah and N Az would want to play in this football WAC but why would they donwgrade conferences and still have pretty similar travel. Why would the NMSU drop down to FCS? They wont willingly.

Why would ACU move? The Southland is a much better situation for them for reasons already listed by others. Its not worth it for anyone in this current climate to give up a regional league with rivals that their students have heard of for one that covers the western half of the US. Maybe if it was football only. Definitely not for an all sports conference.

How many of those D2s desire to move up? Maybe WT.

In that case you have maybe Tarleton, Dixie, N Arizona, and South Utah.

You write like its a no brainer for these schools to move to the WAC when it doesnt really make sense for any of them.

All valid questions that have already been brought forth and discussed to an excrutiating degree. Check out the thread here:
https://csnbbs.com/thread-898414.html

Basically, we need to see what the WACs next addition is. A theory that holds water with me is S UT and N AZ come on boatd, all A&M schools (minus Prairie View) get parked in the WAC and UTRGV starts up football, UTPB makes the leap. If that happens, ACU is a geographical outlier in the SLC. A&M Chancellor wants system exposure that only the WAC can provide.

Why wouldn't C-USA just add Sam Houston State?

Have you seen their football stadium and attendance? Both are literally worse than yalls. They averaged like 4k last season. Not even sure theyd be competitive in the SB or CUSA in football. They have a nice baseball stadium though.

No I haven't seen their attendance numbers or stadium. Well there goes that. I was only looking at record, and I recall SHSU getting brought up when people talked about conference realignment a couple years ago.

If the SLC come a knocking, we will take it. But the SLC will not do it.

Basically, we need to see what the WACs next addition is. A theory that holds water with me is S UT and N AZ come on boatd, all A&M schools (minus Prairie View) get parked in the WAC and UTRGV starts up football, UTPB makes the leap. If that happens, ACU is a geographical outlier in the SLC. A&M Chancellor wants system exposure that only the WAC can provide.

1. Does ACU even want to leave the SLC?
2. Does UTPB want to move up and could they afford it?
3. Is UTRGV still interested in football or have they decided to spend the money elsewhere? Coronavirus could also affect their decision. Add that with FCS or FBS and their study essentially saying FBS or don't start football is yet another angle.
