UC's website still says the Wednesday game is on ESPN+, but as was pointed out it's not on the ESPN+ schedule

Xavier game against Toledo scheduled for FS1 was cancelled for Covid problems with the production crew. It would seem to be too early for ESPN+ to be cancelling for similar reasons. Hoping maybe with all the cancellations ESPN is holding back listing exactly where it is shown. Maybe we might be moved to a regular ESPN channel.

Don't hold me to this but part of the new media deal with ESPN was that some-if-not-all ESPN+ broadcasts would be managed in-house by the school's athletic department. Again, not sure if that's 100% accurate or what the details are but when the women's team hosted NKU, that was managed by UC, although aired on ESPN+.

My uneducated guess is that these "who cares" games against Lipscomb and Furman may have been put on ESPN+ as a means for UC to manage their own broadcast, minimize COVID contact, and keep things as safe as possible from that perspective.

I'd be thrilled if they just piped in Dan Hoard and whoever he's doing the game with for the audio.

So we gonna get Matt Noonan on the call?

Most of the time when that happens up here (Toledo) for games, it ends up just being the Radio call or if there is a regional sports network (BCSN for us, probably nothing down there), they just piggyback that with an "ESPN" logo on the bottom corner.

If it's Dan Hoard and Terry Nelson, or Tom Gehleter, I'm fine with it. Actually, I'd prefer that over most crews.

Yeah, if we're doing the production, I see no sense in paying a separate crew if we don't have to. We need to save money where we can. I don't know if it would work logistically with timing on breaks, and it may be a little awkward for those who aren't aware it's radio guys doing the commentary, since radio play-by-play is a lot more involved than television. At any rate, I love Dan Hoard, so I'm all for it.

Remember when we played at Bowling Green a few years back and they had a student crew? I felt bad, but I had to turn the volume off because it was really rough.

Except for the on-court reporter. She was fun.

So true. She generated many posts on here as I recall. Far more entertaining than any game action against BG, which was a strange bit of scheduling at the time.

Was that the first year of BG's new Stroh Center? Kind of like Minnesota coming to help us open the Shoemaker Center?

Personally, I think UC needs to get out a bit more in Ohio to rally the alumni throughout the state who do not live within the loop, and to help with both athlete and student recruiting from those areas.

BG has a great guy who travels all over the northeast west quarter of Ohio (and beyond) recruiting top students at local high schools and helping recruit many of their out of state athletes in all sports. If UC has someone like that, I have never heard of it.

UC has a staff of 20+ recruiters who work out of University Pavilion doing the exact same thing...as does every other institution in the country nowadays. Now if you're referring to an alum doing that of his own volition, I'm not so sure. Despite being an employee of another institution in the state, I still fly my Cincinnati flag off my front porch and have UC Plates on my car (both of which are happening a lot more in NW Ohio lately...I like to think I was part of the initial wave in the mid 00's).

BG had a major donor that passed and left in his will a large sum of money for the basketball program that was specifically tied to bringing in brand-name opponents for home games. That 2 for 1 series was directly tied to that gift...

I don’t mind the occasional 2-for-1 with a MAC school if we’re getting paid.

Interesting. People can designate donations almost any way they choose. But in my mind, there is nothing sustainable for their basketball program about bringing in an occasional high profile opponent as opposed to other more enduring program and facility enhancements.

Very odd if this is true:

"Dan Hoard was scheduled to do play-by-play for the Xavier Musketeers' basketball game against Toledo last week before the FS1 broadcast of the game was canceled just minutes before tip-off because of COVID-19 issues involving the production crew."

That would have shaken up some of the X faithful. But we had to endure Pete Gillen on our games that were picked up by CBS Sports Network years past.
