RE: 20-21 BBall schedule

considering Brannen's philosophy for scheduling, this add seems a bit weird. Without looking at their roster, I wonder if they're returning a bunch of upperclassmen and Brannen expects them to be far better. Maybe he's looking for an easy first game before the gauntlet.

There are A LOT of tough games in our OOC at the moment...this is probably the one reprieve he is giving his team, and there likely are a lot of people not writing out game contracts for a season that may not happen.

My guess is that the UofL game was added late and there is a desire to get a game under their belt before the Cards come to town. At this point, there are likely few options of teams.

RE: 20-21 BBall schedule
With the way Brannen already stacked the schedule, I wasn't expecting any quality opponents for the last 3. I'm fine with this. We should fill out the remaining 3 on the schedule with the cheapest buy games we can find given the current economic climate for college athletics. As much as I'm all for getting the best buy games, it's not worth going further into the red to buy a game against a 200 RPI vs a 300 when the rest of the strength of schedule is already really good.

I have my doubts there will be a non-conference BB schedule. The freak out will not wind down enough until well after the first Tuesday in November.

I would say that you are probably right, Rath. Sad to say. No reason to continue this madness when it probably goes unheard from after this next election.

ACC against having a non-conference schedule, but are pushing for an all-inclusive NCAA tournament.

Non-conference basketball probably won't happen this year if the same great minds that eliminated it from college football have their way. But if it's an "everybody's in" NCAA Tourney, bar the door. TV may just decide that's the way to go and it becomes a permanent fixture.

It's amazing to think how that just totally undermines any value to college basketball's regular season. But look on the bright side--UC could finally avenge its loss to Presbyterian College in a first round game in March on the way to the Sweet One Hundred Twenty Eight. And every school could hang an "NCAA Tournament Participation" banner; trophies for all finally reaches Division 1.

I didn't see this mentioned anywhere so I'll post this here.

Headliners Arizona, St. John's drop out of 2020 NIT Season Tip-Off, per report
Dave Clark
Cincinnati Enquirer

The 2020 Preseason NIT - also called the NIT Season Tip-Off and set to feature the Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball team for the first time - will be played without headliners Arizona and St. John's, according to a report via Twitter from Stadium's Jeff Goodman.

UC and Texas Tech remain as the tournament's two headliners, according to Goodman.

CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein reported earlier this month that the tournament is among early season college basketball events moving to Orlando. The tournament had been scheduled to be played in late November at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The Champions Classic, the Jimmy V Classic, Orlando Invitational (featuring Xavier), Myrtle Beach Invitational, Charleston Classic, Wooden Legacy and Diamond Head Classic also will be played in Orlando, according to Rothstein's report, and fans aren't expected to attend any of them.

Cincinnati will gladly take on the mantle of "Headliner" for one of college basketball's highest profile pre-season events.

St. John's still lives in the reflected glory of the old Big East but hasn't really had much to shout about in a long time (28 years without a conference championship). Arizona has had its share of problems on and off the court under Miller.

And Texas Tech has had some real success of late but doesn't have Cincy's pedigree. Bring it on in Orlando.

Not saying this is the case, but Covid is, and will be, used by a lot of people to get out of things they didn't want to do anyway.

RE: 20-21 BBall schedule
Regarding the upcoming season, this may be heresy for some here but if UC has to host X in an empty 5th/3rd I say pass. Tell X that game will be played next season @ 5th/3rd with our fans present.

Why make our season ticket holders and students (who would fill the place) miss this cycle, only to watch the return game in a sold out Cintas in 2021.

Evidently from what i've heard from two sources(one Cunningham on the radio) is that X is bulking at playing the game, not Uc.

So are they playing games before their own fans 6 miles away?

This is all confusing. So we're in the NIT Season Tip-Off (originally supposed to be in Brooklyn but now at Disney). That tourney was with Arizona, Cincinnati, St Johns, and Texas Tech. If I recall, Arizona had to back out so the tourney has an open spot and the Zags may fill it?

If this is accurate, IMO Gonzaga sounds like a pretty even switch for Arizona. In some years it would be a better switch

Edit: I just read St. Johns is bowing out too so the tournament is looking to fill 2 spots?
