Looking at the webcam, the Ticket Office out building to the south, the northwest entry gate have both now appeared and there are lights on in one of the locker rooms in the southwest corner.

The've graded out the parking area just south of Top Golf and look to be in the process of grading out the tailgating area south of that.

If by that you mean "somewhere at some plastic factory our field is already being manufactured", then yes, you're probably right.

This brings up a good point. Do we know if the playing surface will be grass or artificial?

Artificial turf can be turned out in any color. There is blue as in Boise or red as in Eastern Washington. Since UAB is to be the primary tenant of the Protective Stadium, is it possible to have alternating strips of green and gold with the end zones all gold - behind the "gold line?

Little known fact. Anyone wanting to install an artificial turf football field in any color besides green (excluding end zones) must get the permission of Boise State University.

Quote:BOISE, Idaho — If anyone in the world — a high school in Texas, a college in New England, a university in Japan — wants to install an artificial turf field of any color besides green, it must first receive permission from the occupant of a corner office in a brick building at the center of the campus of Boise State University.

The office belongs to Rachael Bickerton, a London-born former music-licensing lawyer who had never seen football before she came to Idaho. For the past nine years, she has been the director of trademark licensing and enforcement for Boise State. In addition to protecting the university’s name and brand, she defends Boise State’s iconic blue turf football field from any copycats who would dull its luster.

To do that, Bickerton’s biggest weapon is a trademark — one that some experts deem overly broad and open to challenges — that effectively gives Boise State veto power over anyone looking to add a splash of color to anything but its end zones.

So what hoops did Eastern Washington have to jump through to put in their bright red field? Having given them a waiver (?), can they fight the BJCC if they want to go with green and gold?

There’s no way that holds up if someone really wants to challenge it

It's held up for a decade now because Boise State has thus far granted free licenses to any school wanting to use any color except blue. It has licensed blue fields at several high schools, the University of New Haven (D2) and Luther College (D3) in the United States and the Hosei Tomahawks in Japan.

Others:
Coastal Carolina - Teal (Sun Belt)
Central Arkansas - Alternating Purple and Gray (Southland)
Lindenwood - Alternating Red and Gray (NAIA)
Eastern Washington - Red (Big Sky)
Eastern Michigan - Gray (MAC)

Non-traditional colored football fields are prohibited in the NFL.

You combine a gold-striped field with our gold numbers on white jerseys and David Crane may leap off the top of our nice new pressbox to his death.

Why would UAB consider it? The grass is already green.

Never said that I believed UAB would consider it. Just saw talk about it and that was my nice way of asking “why the **** are we even talking about this?”
