Giving Tuesday - GameAbove
GameAbove is sponsoring a match donation pledge program to help fund student emergency needs in these difficult times. There are always students who have unexpected and unmet needs and this time is certainly one of those times.

See below.

BTW, what a GREAT group of EMU supporters!!! What a blessing for the university.

Giving Tuesday - GameAbove
Is there a relationship between GameAbove and the EMU Foundation? From the very little I've read it seems like they have the same mission. Are they redundant organizations working separately from each other or do they team up somehow?

RE: Giving Tuesday - GameAbove
I believe they work hand in hand.
Money is funnelled thru EMU Foundation which is the fund raising arm for EMU

RE: Giving Tuesday - GameAbove
GameAbove is an alumni collective that donates funds to the university. It's essentially a donor circle for wealthy EMU alumni (most of them were in athletics). The EMU Foundation primarily raises funds for EMU. Sometimes the Foundation gives out it's money (through scholarships, or other means) to students, but it is primarily folks working as fundraisers.

Yes, but remember the funds pass through the EMU Foundation be it from GameAbove donors or us.

So when GameAbove gives 1M for SAPC those monies pass through the EMU Foundation just like the gifts by posters here made for SAPC.

This project is turning out to be a nice success. When I noticed it this morning it was at $12,000+. Now it is over 22K.

Nice job. Almost 50% to the goal.

I'm assuming that running the money through the Foundation helps with the taxes somehow.

Yep. The Foundation is a 501©3 nonprofit, so gifts to them are tax-deductible.

Nice article. This donation has gotten a lot of positive press lately. (Also, I don't see anything like this coming from UM, MSU, WMU, CMU or Wayne State).

Frank, I heard a snippet from Georgetown, in D.C.

They are using federal funds (I think I've posted that schools are getting $ from the feds, some of which to help low income students) and will use GU funds to help others in need.

That said, this is a very noble effort by friends of EMU to meet a particular need, students in financial distress.
