ESPN College Football Power Index 2020
I generally tire of hearing people throw out the "no respect" card about their team, but dang, we get no respect here.

College Football Power Index 2020

btw, this was the basis for the UCF possibly going undefeated/ playoff discussion in another thread.

Am I crazy or is this list crazy? Didn't UC just finish with 11 wins and a Top 25 finish the last two straight years and have a large returning group? 46th overall and 7.7 wins seems very low. Vegas even has us at 8.5 wins.

I cannot recall a year ever where UC wasn’t underrated. Last year Vegas had us wining 6.5 games following an 11-win season. We simply don’t ever get the underdog cred that Boise or Appy State gets, and we are not considered a sexy program like UCF.

time to prove them wrong once agian. It's my belief this helps the current locker room but probably isn't sexy in recruiting.

UC just has to keep doing what they are doing. Outside of live sports, ESPN is just click bait...sports TMZ where opinion and outrageous reporting is "fact".

Unfortunately that clickbait material hurts UC's image and recruiting. ESPN drives much of the collegiate sports narratives and each schools place on the hierarchy.

Disappointing for sure. But largely meaningless.

Will Fickell and company come out with a big chip on their collective shoulders? I hope so. Almost annually we see the parade of the overrated enter the season wtih a shiny new ranking, only to stumble out of the gate. Without doing exhaustive research on the topic I'll suggest that Florida State, Miami and Nebraska are charter members of this group that consistently get the preseason love followed by questionable performances.

It's a computer projection. I wouldn't get too worked up about it. Most of the actual people I've read that cover college football are higher on UC going into this year.

Meh. These so-called "rankings" haven't limited our on the field success or recruiting over the past several years. It hasn't prevented us from winning back-to-back bowl games over the P5 either. I'm not surprised that UCF is favored but to have us listed about 32 spots lower is laughable. Then again, this index shows us to be the 4th highest in the AAC and the 6th highest G5 team.

Epic Mind Blown

How much credibility do you give to a rating that shows UGonn in the American in 2020?

Only thing I can guess is that their model sees the loss of Mike Warren as a huge impediment to our team.

Seriously, I agree. The 1992-93 basketball team was clearly in that category as well, as Nick didn't even make Dick Vitale's top 50 seniors. I still laugh to this day, at how shocked the media was at how good that team was.

Great point. Sometimes the most enjoyable championship runs are the ones we least expect. As a kid, I wanted to believe the Big Red Machine was one of baseball's best teams, ever. But it took until the middle of that decade for them to finally win a World Series. And many of us were pretty concerned they'd still be the bridesmaids after game six.

Conversely, the '90 Reds caught me by surprise going wire to wire and sweeping a favored Oakland team. I felt like they were playing with house money at that point and was elated with the outcome. For me, it was the same feeling again in '92 with UC reaching the Final Four for the first time since 1963.

So not to get too philosophical, but when attending games with my son I always told him to "cherish the moment". Those moments included the Nippert win over Wisconsin; Orange and Sugar Bowl appearances, and now, back to back 11 win seasons with a pair of P5 bowl victories.

Hats off to low expectations that UC will exceed once again this season.

Those two programs have gotten media darling status for having their big wins over blue blood programs over 10 years ago. Sadly, UC is good enough to be ducked by most programs and hasn't cashed in on a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity over a team like Ohio State or won either of our BCS games. I believe getting a signature win in one of those situations would boost UC's reputation greatly. But until that happens just keep going out there and win on the field and recruiting. Respect is coming slowly but surely. Make it so the P5 is fighting over you when the next round of realignment happens.

Here's the good news. Once again, UC is in a position to get it done on the field and make it to the big time. I'm guilty of undervaluing our program over the past two seasons. They performed better than I predicted they would before the seasons began. Not this year. I ain't gonna do it. Call me biased, unrealistic, overly-optimistic Otto, kool-aid king, in Fick we trust-bot, et al., but UC is going to run the table. RUN THE TABLE. 12-0 regular season. 13-0 winning the CCG. 14-0 winning the NY6. It will be glorious! Epic! It will be written and sung about for decades. I know Dannyboy agrees.
