Please forgive the ignorance... but does this help us in with the Independent Accountability Resolution Process. I bet not, but I hope so.

RE: NCAA to allow players to be paid and/or profit from name/likeness
I think it could be somewhat beneficial in football. Look at the big picture:
- Silverfield and this staff seem to be legit recruiters
- the playoff is going to expand eventually. Too much $$ for it not to and that need for money generated may be sooner rather than later due to COVID. There will be a G5 spot or lawsuits like crazy. Memphis will have a better chance to get in the 8 than many p5 bottom dwellers
- if we're going after the 3 stars and occasional 4 star that might be backups at P5 schools, there will be more likeness opportunities in a city like Memphis than smaller college towns
Add all that together and it could sway some of those guys our way
Basketball will be fine as long as the NCAA doesn't do too much to cripple the program in this Ind Review. Penny, Nike, bball crazy city - already beating blue bloods for recruits, this wont change

Forget about the national level. Nothing changes there. The top of the top are going to get national contracts no matter where they are. Tua is still going to Bama, Joe is still going to LSU, and Trevor is still go to Clemson. Wiseman & Green are still getting national contracts whether here or at UK.
Think local. As the poster above said, we have a passionate fan base. Think about the opportunities for players to make $1,000 on a Saturday promotion at Jim Keras. Or make $500 on a weekday signing autographs at Wing Guru. Or get a cut of real jersey sales at Tiger Bookstore. No, that won't compete with Bama in football - just like we don't now. But it could give us an advantage over conference rivals without the passion our fans have. And the opportunities shouldn't be any less than some of our top-end recruiting competition (Old Miss, Miss State, etc.).
I seriously hope that is not allowed.
If so...Go ahead and let them hire agents and call them pros because you have just made all of the under the counter payments now legal.

There was talk about allowing players to hire agents.
You prefer under the counter money, with selective enforcement by the NCAA?

I stated on this board a long time ago I thought they should get some money. Everyone connected with a University sporting event makes money and only the players are responsible for bringing the people in who make that possible. The only caveat to this is will it turn into a bidding war for Universities. If they are going to do it, there should be a universal amount an athlete can get.

Now that it is legal...You will have many more participating.
Bidding wars will begin for players.
At least colleges will now be able to compete with the G-League and still be legit. But I think they should limit HOW they are able to profit off their likeness.
You shouldn't be able to charge appearance fees...But you can get a cut of your Jersey sales.

Lol
Nothing will happen to Duke, but they’ll drill us over the Wiseman deal.

I don't think Arizona, Kansas or LSU will get penalized but Memphis will. It's just the way it will go. I hope I'm wrong.

Kansas may get a harder slap on the wrist than the others because KU has been a little defiant. It wont be much though. No postseason ban or anything. Someone has to take down the NCAA one of these days over their selective enforcement.

Didn't you hear? The IARP was created to combat the appearance of selective enforcement. Totally independent.
Of course, Memphis is the only case in the IARP right now. LSU, Arizona, Auburn, NC State, and even Kansas have not been referred to the independent committee.

We/MEMPHIS had them in the cross hairs with the Quitters lawsuit---but as usual we blinked--like always. Public opinion NATIONALLY was on our side--but just bent over and took it--(LIKE ALWAYS).
It's almost as if we say to ourselves ---(if we just cower and weakly take it like always -then this time they will go easy on us--they will be nice to us this time).
They ALWAYS nail us ---so why not fight them. Then maybe next time they might say -hey MEMPHIS will fight us---so lets go easy and give them the benefit of the doubt. We should fight them suckers every single time. Like you said--someone has take them on.
