DNR
I don't think the DNR has ever had a better set of sports writers.

With the current existing situation throughout the world it tends to hinder new topics or gaining information, but this staff seems to come up with a couple new articles every day. By contrast opening the Washington post each morning it frequently looks just like the prior day with little, if any, new content.

I appreciate the effort.

The E-edition Digital Replica subscription is only $6/month if you go month-to-month and $65 for the year. You get an email every morning with a link to the digital replica edition of the DNR plus access to all online articles.

I will personally always treasure one time sports editor Chris Simmons, unfortunately we lost him unexpectedly in 2016.

Chris was a critical thinker and not afraid to ask the tough questions.

Chris was unique and certainly would express his views.

Mike Barber was also solid. He had a good relationship with Mickey which allowed for a lot of information to be published from a "source". 03-lmfao

I'm just glad the thread title wasn't related to COVID-19, the men's basketball program, or JMU's aspirations for conference realignment at the FBS level.

I agree. I check it out each morning and sometimes in the evening as they add content. It is a great value for me.

When I see those letters, I immediately think Do Not Resuscitate. Not a fan of the local paper.

Curious, why would you not want to see reporting on men's basketball or conference news?

o-to-p's default interpretation of DNR. Glad that and the thread wasn't related to those topics I listed.

RE: DNR
Thinking DNR and Washington Post at the same time makes me laugh. "let it die" I don't keep up much with the Daily News Record, but when I do, they always seem to quality content. Something we see less of in other rags. (Richmond Times Dispatch)

Sad a man with so much intelligence did not seek help. His death could have been prevented. Mental illness often goes untreated. His is a life that ended too soon.

Chris’s approach to journalism was better suited for Washington or New York. It did not go over well in Harrisonburg. His slant on things seemed anti-JMU which is why you liked him.

Chris’s truth was not always the truth. I am glad he is not the sports editor at the DNR. The sports reporting is so much better now than when he was running the sports department.

RE: DNR
I found Simmons to be at his most abrasive when JMU was at its most tight lipped. You want to keep quiet on something that the public wants to know about (or has a right to know), you have to expect dogged inquisition and deal with the outcome. JMU is not the Manhattan project, shrouded by a veil of national security. I appreciated when he'd occasionally take charge of a story.

That said, I find the DNRs two guys covering football & basketball to be the best combo we've had in ages.
