Solon QB Pat McQuaide committed today. That's another NE Ohio QB staying home.

Kipp is walking on. KSU pulled a scholarship offer after all those seniors decided to stick around.

Not if, but when. But I agree. KSU, & the MAC overall ate getting a better reputation. A good number of MAC alums will be participating in the upcoming Super Bowl.

I thought that the NCAA decided that seniors who decided to take advantage of the extra season did not count against the scholarship limit?

That's true. Your program has to have it in the budget to pay for the extra scholarships for this year. You're going to see Power 5 schools with 100ish players on scholarship this year.

Thanks KSU2012. I should have thought of that. Of course, except for the elite of the Power 5 types schools, it's all about the money. It's always the money.

I remember a time back in the 1980s, I think it was, when teams played 11 games, but if a team travelled to Hawaii they could schedule a 12th game at home. Kent State declined to schedule the 12th game and the reason given was that they couldn't afford it! That even a home game is a financial loss.

Thanks Polish Hammer. I couldn't remember the year. I knew it was either the late 1980s or early 1990s. I was going to look it up but that would have been too much like work.

This is a bad one to lose. He has won some big ones for us if I recall correctly.

He was very integral in that come back win against UB that set the stage for the late season run and bowl bid. He kicked and recovered the key on side kick then hit the game winner. Big loss. Possibly the best kicker in school history.

RE: 2021 Football Recruiting
I don't know but I'm just ASSUMING Trickett is "taking his talents" to a "bigger school". I'm 75 years old and saw my first college football game in 1953, at least that's the earliest I can remember. There weren't many games on TV then at all, or for several years after that, actually. It took me a long time to get used to the concept of "mid-major". College football didn't even have divisions, not officially, until the 1956-57 basketball season. Football not until 1962. Then, it was just big schools (university division) and small schools (college division). Oh sure, before that there were always big time programs - your Notre Dames. Michigans, Ohio States, etc. But for a long time there was not this stark division among programs like now. That happened gradually over years and it was not THAT unusual for NBA type prospects to select schools that we now refer to as "mid-major". Sure, some of it was due to black athletes being barred from many conferences (SEC, SWC in particular) and the "integrated" schools having unofficial "gentlemen's agreements" severely limiting the number of blacks on the roster and as starters. So, many very talented black athletes were left with "mid-major" type programs or HBC schools. But it was still not THAT unusual for even top-of-the-line white athletes to chose "smaller schools". So, it took me a while to adjust to the fact that mid-majors had virtually no chance anymore to compete for the most highly ranked recruits. So now, there is the ever increasing ease in transferring and I have to get used to mid-major athletes who excel maybe transferring up. Maybe I'm just too old for the aggravation.

This just seems weird ... I understand a QB at Notre Dame is different than a QB at Kent. Ditto just about any other position on the field going against better competition. But a kicker? His competition is the goal post!!!

A 50-yard FG at Dix Stadium is no different than a 50-yard FG at Notre Dame, shy of the fans in the stands. His 'pro' potential will look the same at either place.

Yes how ever the training facilities (there's the tie in to having the worse facilities in the MAC) will be better and the quality of life better.

RE: 2021 Football Recruiting
Good points, Cleveland and Proud pilot. Facilities DO matter in recruiting and keeping players. If you look at all the players currently in the NFL, and not just kickers and punters, and where they played in college there is no doubt that if you're talented enough you're going to play in the NFL no matter what position you play. You may not be drafted as high, though. I think the prestige of playing at a top-25 type P-5 school has to have quite an allure for a high school athlete, too, seeing as how the media concentrates more and more on those programs, to the detriment of everyone else.
