RE: 2021 Football Recruiting
Yes. The spirit of competition is gone from the top levels of college football. There's a handful of teams that get all the elite recruits (and develop them well) so they have very little serious competition until the CFP. Makes for a pretty boring season with 1 or 2 noteworthy games each year.
It's pretty tough to argue with the recruits wanting to go to those schools though. College is about best positioning yourself for the work force and playing on the best teams with the best coaches does that for you. Just ask Trey Sermon. So I'm not really sure how it can be fixed. Expanding the playoffs would potentially make it more entertaining. But I fear upsets would still be rare and it would still end up being the same teams alive at the end.

It has always surprised me how many elite athletes are willing to sit the bench at one of those schools instead of being a starter at another school.

Somewhat off topic, but is anyone else as bored as I am with the top of the college football pyramid? I mean, the way a handful of programs have practically cornered the market on recruiting? If I never see Alabama or Clemson or OSU again it will be too soon. You have those three, and to a slightly lesser extent Georgia and LSU (who had an off year) Even Notre Dame's last two games show that they are on the outside looking in. Oklachoma is a step behind. Texas A&M, too. Florida MAY climb back in, as may Auburn. But the trio of Clemson, Alabama and Clemson have managed to become the super-elite.
Everybody wants to go to the SEC. it’s amazing Clemson and Ohio St. broke in. I wonder if the ESPN/SEC relationship is the main reason.

I know one of those kids on the sidelines last night; walked on and knows he’ll probably never play despite turning down numerous scholarships elsewhere to pay and be @ spectator.

I finally came to that realization a few years ago when I looked at a program like Penn State that we were playing. They wanted to be on the level with Ohio State who was also trying to be on the level with Bama and Clemson. We’re miles from Penn State who is far from Ohio State and on and on. The gap between haves and have nots has been blown so wide open it’s not even funny; forget P5 and G5, there’s P5 schools that will never be relevant let alone G5.

This coaching staff is just phenomenal! I just got a sense they continue to pick the low hanging fruit off the recruiting trail. Remember they were already winning with Paul Haynes recruits. How much more will they will win with their own recruits!?

I'm sure this was an easy sell. Being at Syracuse he would've played on Lewis's offense, and he's coming to a high powered offense with an NFL prospect at QB they just lost its #1 WR.

The quarterback from Mentor has the potential to be a good one. Glad to hear that Mentor to Kent is a becoming a thing.

If Lewis ever leaves he definitely has set up the next coach to take over a solid program. The place won't be in shambles like the past few have left it.

Not if, but when. But I agree. KSU, & the MAC overall ate getting a better reputation. A good number of MAC alums will be participating in the upcoming Super Bowl.

We have 1 more years with Lewis and he's gone. He's getting more and more national run. Greg McElroy and Danny Kannell on the first team talked about him for 2-3 minutes today about a guy that needs attention for a bigger job. cited all the things we know: turned around a moribound program (they said one of worst in D1), young, bright energetic and plays up tempo offense. all those resonate with boosters and recruits. So enjoy 2021.

Already planning to go to the Maryland game this coming September. That one should be a lot of fun.
