RE: Gaber Leaving UT
salary reductions are for administrators, 1-3 furlough days are for PSA, and today CWA (unionized) staff are being informed as to up to 29 calendar days (4 work weeks) of temporary layoffs, many will be laid off for four weeks between May 11 and June 30th, all of these spending reductions are for May-June only, to end of FY20 on June 30th. In next few weeks additional plans for budget cuts including more of these salary reductions for FY 21 (July 1 2020 to June 30 2021) will be announced. These cuts cover every UT staff position except essential medical workers at UTMC.

Gaber pulls a Matt Campbell and Pisanelli makes sure the university is well on the path of same-ol, same-ol. Yikes. Why do you need to hire a retired Universirty President with a "rolodex" of retired University Presidents? Never heard of Google? They've barely started and this is already so in-bled, it's hard to have hope.

Why waste time hiring a search firm to hire an interim president? Appoint a current dean who knows UT and get on with hiring a permanent president. BTW, the BOT's attempts at being transparent are a complete failure. Who are these people?

Yep...makes no sense...there are plenty of candidates who are able to do the job at UT. The administration has made a habit of paying outside firms exorbitant fees to do next to nothing productive in the past though, so this should come as no surprised. Ruffalo Noel Levitz was hired to consult enrollment and GUARANTEED increased enrollment...3 years and $600,000 later, all we got was a ****** interim VP of Enrollment who was stuck in 1997.

and picking a search firm of a UT grad/very recent former OhioU Pres? And conincidently writes a May 7th article on "Conducting a Successful Leadership Search in a Pandemic," which says exactly, nothing. Does that pass smell test? And the Blade makes no challenges to the process.

I'm not seeing hope in the process so far.

Yeah...especially when you consider the issues he had near the end of his tenure at OU as well. Oh well, guess we should just expect this at this point...that's what you get when you have a room full of executive lawyers.

And just watch him get the job...... watch

How do the dozens of CWA staff just laid off for four weeks feel about BOT wasting $30,000???

RE: Gaber Leaving UT
Conflict of interest would (should) remove him from getting any position in which he had a first or even a second hand in obtaining candidates. I wouldn't expect duplicity in that regard. But by selecting his "rolodex," BOT has clearly narrowed the lane for the search beyond interim. I very much doubt they do not know who is on that "roledex." (Did she really say that? smh). It does smell of fix, whether it is or not.

RE: Gaber Leaving UT
Looks like the three candidates for Interim President were selected and will be interviewed shortly...you'll notice a very specific lean...

Dr. Christopher Colenda – President emeritus at West Virginia University (WVU) Health System and former chancellor for health sciences at WVU. During his tenure, the WVU Health System grew to include eight owned or affiliated hospitals throughout the state of West Virginia. Among his many academic leadership appointments, Colenda also served as vice president for clinical affairs and dean of the College of Medicine at Texas A&M University. He holds an M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia of Virginia Commonwealth University, a M.P.H. from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wittenberg University. He completed residencies in pathology at Case Western University, behavioral medicine and psychiatry at University of Virginia and general preventive medicine at Johns Hopkins University. He was also the chief resident in the Department of Psychiatry and completed a fellowship in public mental health, both at Emory University.

Dr. Gregory Postel – Former interim president and former executive vice president for health affairs at the University of Louisville (UofL) and current senior client partner representing healthcare services and higher education at Korn Ferry, an organizational consulting firm. Postel has extensive experience with academic medical center and university operations. He also served as CEO of UofL Physicians. As interim president he led the successful removal of UofL’s accreditation probation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC) and restructured the UofL athletics department. He led the UofL’s budget reset necessitated by a $50 million shortfall. Among his many administrative accomplishments, Postel designed and implemented two academic affiliations including an eight-year, $33 million per year pediatric affiliation with Norton Healthcare and a $23 million a year adult affiliation agreement with KentuckyOne Health. A graduate of the College of Wooster with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and an M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, he completed a residency in radiology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and a fellowship in neuroradiology at the Mayo Clinic Foundation.

Dr. Chuck Staben – The former president and current professor of biology at the University of Idaho (U of I). Under his leadership U of I grew research more than 25%, increased student retention and graduation and doubled fundraising exceeding $50 million annually. His administrative experience also includes provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of South Dakota and vice president for research at the University of Kentucky. He earned his Ph.D. in biochemistry at the University of California, Berkeley and his undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He also completed post-doc training at Stanford University and Chiron Research Laboratories.

Their major qualifications appear to be, they want the position. Or a free day in Toledo.

Colander: google Shankar. lol

Postel: He wanted to be Pres of S. Florida. Guess we're a plan B. This one should be fun.

Dr. Chuck Staben This one's been shopping himself around for quite awhile. He moved Idaho to the FCS.

Yeah, they're clearly climbers, and they likely know this is a dress rehearsal opportunity. As for Postel, USF is one of the better institutions in the country in a lot of significant metrics now, if he was a finalist there, that's a good sign to me, especially considering what he had to deal with at Louisville.

I haven't found anything says he was a finalist. Only that he wanted the job.

That's what you get, the folks interested in an interim job like one here at UT are looking to repair their professional image so to be able to jump to the next job-let's just hope whomever is selected does not burn down the place before they leave.
