clt says it is a great time to start the job. FB and MBB are leading cusa in recruiting, applications are up, academic standards continue to rise, new logo will be announced soon, and we have the second best tennis facility in the nation.

Like nearly all academic admin-execs these days, Dr. Gaber's moved out & up every few years:

1999-2002 - Nebraska-Lincoln (3 positions)
2002-2009 - Auburn (5 positions)
2009-2015 - Arkansas (1 postion, Provost & Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs)
2015-2020 - Toledo (1 position: President)

Last year, she interviewed to be the Ole Miss chancellor. (https://talkbusiness.net/2019/10/asus-da...ine-offer/)

clt adds that she declined to be interviewed for ole miss. Certainly looking for a better academic and football school like Charlotte.

RE: UNC Charlotte has a new leader
Times are changing, so if Gaber does a great job and then moves somewhere else I will thank her. So far, in UNC Charlotte's history, our President/Chancellors have all stayed until retirement.

Every Chancellor has had unique opportunities, and for Gaber I see several.
  • Enrollment will grow from 30,000 to about 45,000.
  • She will be called upon to leverage her urban planning background, and the University's role as the 800 lb gorilla, to drive planning in University City (the area of Charlotte around the Main and Research campuses). Home to more than 170,000 people, and the second largest employment center behind uptown, U City needs to mature. Where Charlotte has added light rail, the development has been substantial and exciting. U City is starting to see that.
  • Map our path from R2 to R1 Doctoral Universities (Very High research activity).
  • Medical school?
  • Conference realignment - Nobody know what this means, but it will probably happen on her watch.
I hope we chose well.

Thanks for this report.

It's astounding to me that a university would announce any finalists it hadn't even interviewed. But apparently Ole Miss did that with at least Damphousse and Gaber. Wow!

Dr Gaber will do a nice job and be hired away in 5 years. Nice lady. UNCC will enjoy her time at the University.

Why? After the fake classes BS, I'd be embarrassed to be affiliated with UNC.

Nope, didn't happen. UNC is God's love on Earth to the State of North Carolina. All criticism of the great bastion of education is a lie and a sin. All praise the sacred ram!

Or the Wheels for Heels program (both cars and parking tickets cover up).

Or the Miami parties with free jewelry, etc., thrown by Marvin Austin, etc.

Or the job for Hansbrough's mom for which she wasn't qualified.

Or the time Roy Williams got busted buying expensive suits for his players and then saying he didn't know better as head of the NCAA ethics committee.

A lot of that cheating and buying things for players and recruits is just expected at the P5 level, so few consider it embarrassing. The fake classes made the UNC Diploma as valuable at TP (less in the current TP economy). Sexual assaults should always shame a school and fan base, but PSU proved that's easily overlooked.
