Vols Fans Reportedly Stole Over $600 Worth of Beer From Neyland Stadium
https://www.12up.com/posts/tennessee-ney...e6yjp66a1c

Quote:On Monday, two Tennessee Volunteers fans were arrested for breaking into Neyland Stadium so they can steal 24-packs of beer (worth an estimated $634) from concession stands.

University of Tennessee police were called to the football stadium in Knoxville, Tenn. after security cameras caught five people crawling under a fence. Rachel Barber and Spencer Ngumuya were found walking around the venue with the packs of beer by authorities, and were subsequently charged with burglary at the Knox County Detention Center.

To make this story even more ridiculous, a Knoxville police officer actually warned the two that breaking into the stadium was a bad idea due to the venue being under 24-hour surveillance. Imagine being told by a police officer to not pursue that terrible decision, only to do it anyway! Unbelievable.

Sports can't restart soon enough. 03-lmfao04-chairshot

Stadiums have heightened security to airtight levels. Breaking into stadiums used to be common. Now places like Sanford Stadium have hightech lasers guarding the field.

One exception is Nippert. It’s built into the ground immersed into campus and you can sight-see it 24/7.

People think they can get away with stuff. One guy in my dorm was a victim of the beer ransomer. He was apparently the 4th or 5th victim. Someone broke into his room, removed all his stuff including his mattress, and demanded a 12 pack of Budweiser if he ever wanted to see his stuff again.

He paid the ransom and did get his stuff back.

Never caught the criminal.

Here's my takeaway from this story:

-- There was plenty of beer sitting in Neyland Stadium (at room temperature?) that was presumably bought during the 2019 football season (or earlier).

-- They were planning to sell these beers during the 2020 football season, at $12-13 each, maybe a year or more after those beers were canned.

Caveat emptor, Tennessee fans.

Exactly! The Vol Nation should pay those guys out of trouble and give them 2 season tickets each. They just saved 100,000 Big Orange fans bitter beer face when they served that skunky mess next game, which might be 2021.

Since I'm not a beer drinker, I did a little research on the subject. I was surprised to learn that a case of beer costs more in Tennessee than in most states, at around $22 a case at a supermarket. So unless these two were carrying a whole bunch of cases, the "value" reported must have been at stadium prices. If people actually pay $12 for a can of beer at Neyland Stadium, the two thieves aren't even the dumbest people in Knoxville.

My guess is that higher-ups are not that enthusiastic about selling beer inside the stadium, but wanted to quiet those calling for beer to be sold, so they made the price extremely high in the hope that they would sell only a small amount.

24-packs of beer, what was stolen according to that article, are not going to be the best or most expensive beer. Look it up -- the store price of a 24-pack of something like Bud or Miller Lite is $22 at Kroger in Knoxville this week.

Read once that TN has the highest beer excise tax in the land. Something like a buck 30 per gallon.

Also, something something "buttchug" (filthy Viles)

One winter break during college I spent new year's in Columbia, MO with friends who went to Mizzou. On NYD we walked over to Faurot Field, where a back gate was wide open and you could walk around the turf to do whatever you want. We were technically trespassing in all likelihood, though if they had security cameras they didn't care apparently.
