My season tickets were under the overhang. I didn't realize what a risk I was taking.

Surely you jest? Or do you have data to support this claim (2nd sentence ... I think most here would agree with the first)?

Well, in 2017, 9 rice fans were crushed to death. In 2018, it was 7. In 2019, it was 5. Clearly we are flattening the curve. HRS should be boulder free by May, 2022.

Just kidding, yall.

There was a little piece of the concrete that fell over like 10-15 years ago? We've been joking about it ever since. Relax, unless Houston gets hit with a category 6-plus earthquake, I think we're okay.

And the odds of that happening when we are in Rice Stadium, Not too high.

Fact check: correct.
Note well the non-capitalization here of the word ‘rice’, which as a staple boasts billions of fans worldwide.

I can see a limited FBS schedule.

High School football is going to be tough.

There will be a football season. There may not be many, or any, teams playing during the season, though.

San Diego State, Fresno State and San Jose State seem to be big ifs at this point.

If I went to any California school right now, I’d be in the portal.

Probably any west coast school. I’d add northeastern schools too but football isn’t really big time. I’m guessing they’d get a waiver from the NCAA for immediate playing time.

It’s crazy LA is saying another 3 months of stay at home. When they look at all of their empty hospitals I’m not sure how they can justify that decision other than political motivations.

Eh, Cuomo is starting to open upstate on Friday and Baker is starting to open Mass on Monday so ‘Cuse and BC will be fine (as much as any other school).

NJ is the only state in the northeast that hasn’t made announcements re: reopening.

Northwestern University is probably the school that is situated in the hardest hit county in the country among counties with FCS programs (Cook County - Illinois reported over 4000 new cases today and I'll assume most of those were in the Chicago area?). It will be interesting to see how major conferences adjust to football if say everyone in the Big 10 but Northwestern and Rutgers can play (or the Pac 12 perhaps with the California schools in limbo).

My guess is most of the other FCS schools will be fine (maybe UConn and UMass would be two others in question).

Actually, FBO, Chicago is doing amazingly well for a major city. it's still no clear whether the governor will start to slowly open things up come June 1st, but the going on 10 week lockdown has certainly worked to flatten the curve. The problem is that because of the flattened curve, the peak has been out almost a month from what was originally predicted. I believe it is the Western-most parts of the state-- by the Iowa and Mizzou borders-- that have been spiking of late.

I’m guessing when we get the 2nd bump in cases everywhere the northeastern states will be the ones to shutdown again though.

Pushing out the peak is not a "problem" -- it was the whole point of the lockdowns in the first place. By all rights it should be seen as a "mission accomplished" marker . . . unless the goalposts have been moved. Which of course they have.

I don’t think the goal posts have moved in this regard (I think they’ve moved in regards to getting to significantly lower case loads, to no case loads, prior to reopening). And I say that because recommended reopening guidelines pushed out from federal agencies (including the WH) have talked about using X-days of declining numbers as a metric for reopening.

Has anyone seen conferences/schools talk about they’ll handle a second peak, come the fall, should it happen?

Totally agree. The fact that the peak has been pushed out has given Pritzker an excuse for extending the lockdown. His 5-phase re-open plan announced last week is ridiculous, and goes way beyond the CDC guidelines. I'm guessing/hoping he's going to be pressured to modify it a bit by June 1, and start easing restrictions.

There's a lot of we-don't-knows in this conversation with each FBS league commissioner. They're clearly thinking about a lot of contingencies for games (like unequal schedules, a game being missed due to a player on one of the teams testing positive before the game, etc.), and there are no easy answers yet.
