Yeah, there was a time when Aggie fans used to wear "Reggie Nation" T-shirt's due to our head coach at the time being Reggie Theus. PanAmaniacs comes from a time in the mid-1990 when NMSU use to pack the Pan American Center and Neil McCarthy was our head coach. It's not as prevalent a term used for Aggie fans now. But the term is still recognized by all Aggie fans.

Let's continue to forget that one year of Aggie Army.

The WAC is shortening the eligibility period to draw more D2's into the conference.

Is it really that big of a draw to compete in a conference tournament when you’re transitioning? You still can’t go to the NCAA Tournament. I think any school that was considering going to Division 1, is currently playing the waiting game now. No way being able to compete in Vegas is going to be a decision maker for current D2s

CBU is really pleased about it. Your right, it will not convince a school to move up from D2 to D1. I am not sure they need another D2 school at this point. But being able to compete in the post-season basketball tournament in Las Vegas helps when you are recruiting. I think if the economy is good and coronavirus is gone, there should be a decent contingent of CBU fans at the tournament next March.

Transitioning teams have nothing to play for except pride. We know this. However, telling a recruit that you can still finish the season in Vegas after year 3 is cool. You can also sell your team on, you can still be tourney champs (which some teams hang their hat on).

The league also gets more fans at the tourney.

Yes PANKUS, The Plowboys, and let us not forget the Purple Poo, the oldest spirit organization in the State of Texas. Visiting teams are going to see a wide variety of interesting characters in the stands. Consider yourself warned.
Ain't that the truth. So many characters in the stands at Tarleton. Visiting fans will be treated to a group chap wearing Cowboys (plowboys), a bunch of painted up loud mouths (pankus) and twenty costumed figures that loom in the crowd and rile up the fans (Poo).

I haven't been to a home basketball game since the Corp of Cadets was reinstated, but I imagine they bring character as well

Our athletic director, Mario Moccia, has been doing weekly interviews. This week talked about the WAC tourney and was not in favor of the new schools being able to play in the tourney. Interesting...

Pojaque, to be fair, he didn't quite say he was not in favor of it, but I agree it was clear from what he did say that he did not favor it. I just want to make sure that those reading this don't say he said it in so many words. He maintained the appropriate degree of not criticizing the decision.

I guess the appropriate term is "skeptical". Moccia is skeptical of the decision to allow them to play.

He’s not in favor. Had to be politically correct but he’s not in favor.

Recruits care about that possible TV exposure in Vegas. That's why it's a big deal. The players like the idea of winning the conference title, because every D1 conference championship is televised.

Kentucky, Iona, and High Point tournament??
May never happen, but at least Tarleton is planning on playing the best, whenever they can. I like it, sends a good message to recruits.

How many recruits are going to choose a school based on a couple of games they play in their conference tournament? Wouldn’t the coach/arena/fans/teammates have a bigger influence over their decision?

MM: How does this benefit NMSU and the WAC? Somebody will have to answer that. I don't know if I can tell you how this benefits us.
MM: I think the fans will know what I think based on my answers.

Twice he talked about AD's voting versus the WAC board voting and implying the AD's votes meant nothing.

Here is the interview. The convo starts around the 4:00 minute mark and ends at around 7:30. Yes, he didn't explicitly state he was not in favor of it. But, yes, it is abundantly clear he is not in favor. He even interrupted the interviewer, who was trying to change topics, to state we would all know where he stands.

Maybe the WAC board has a feeling that NMSU isn't long for the course with the WAC in the future and they are hedging their bets if NMSU leaves? I personally have my doubts on how this is beneficial.

The WAC Tournament Men's Championship game is played on ESPNU on championship Saturday. Starts at 7PM Pacific. That is the only televised game for the WAC Tourney. The rest of the games are on ESPN +. Since its been on ESPN +, they've had feed issues.

That alone is not the reason. But Rick Croy of CBU can now tell a recruit that we will play at least one game in the WAC post-season tournament in Las Vegas and we can compete for the conference championship. He can tell a recruit that we will be just like a WCC school or an MWC school or a Pac-12 school, that all hold their tournaments in Las Vegas. CBU is just not eligible for the NCAA or NIT tournament, although the women are eligible for the NIT. Croy feels that if he can get a kid on-campus for a visit, they can convince a kid to come to CBU. Playing in the WAC post-season tournament in Las Vegas is just one more selling point.
