No more divisions.

The MAC press release didn't mention divisions, though Steinbrecher
did in his WTOL interview.

I'm pretty sure they're gone. My guess is that the commissioner caught his PR people by surprise and that they were scrambling to catch up. We'll know in a day or so.

The MAC was the last Division I conference to have divisions. They meant almost nothing in tournament seedings.

My sense of things is ... The MAC will not 'have' divisions, but scheduling and such will be based on divisions, if that makes sense. I doubt you will see OU playing NIU twice and Akron once, for example.

The tricky one will be BG and Buffalo. Since the MAC likes to end the season with rivalry games, no doubt BG wants to play Toledo twice, and that game at the end of the season has enough spice to equal Akron-Kent, no matter what the standings.

So does UB/Eastern Michigan now end the season vs. each other???

Will be interesting to see ...

My guess is that infamous 'computer scheduling' (wink-wink) will still look a lot like it has before.

Akron had a partial scholarship for XC and then 9 guys who were walk ons.
Their golf team was on scholarship for 4.5 a few were endowed.
Tennis had 8 scholarships.

So, my question to you. They lose 9 XC runners now and in the future and probably 5 and 5 for the other two sports. All walk-ons paying their way. Keeping up grades etc. I wonder how much money the school really saves.

CC uses track unis, and travels with women's team. Something doesn't add up.
Smoke & mirrors.

That's not fair. The packed stadium is going to bring in enough money to clear all the problems. Think of all the 20,000 crowds the football team will draw, plus all the big events all the time that will pack the place. How could it fail?

Paying two coaches buyouts and a new coaches contract to go winless is a solid strategy for making money.

My guess is only women’s tennis with 8 scholarships saved some money. Men’s golf and XC were just Title IX adjustments to allow them to cut women’s tennis.

I’m hearing much more to come from Akron and the rest of the MAC .
Cuts will result in MAC being reshaped. Buffalo allegedly in best
financial situation. Of course if Zips go down for the count, no tears for them. They did it to themselves

I would guess Miami, Toledo, maybe Ball State to be somewhat/relatively stable as well ... but after that nothing would be surprising financial news from the rest of the league.

KSU "should" be in good shape but the ineptitude of the AD has finally caught up to us. Enrollment is up, endowments are up. Yet, athletics cannot capitalize on either one.

Watched an interview with the BGSU head baseball coach who was blindsided by them eliminating the program. Turns out Kyle Hallock was his pitching coach.

RE: Kent State University to cut Budget 20% for 2021
A couple days ago, Mrs. Joyce and I decided we’d just about had enough of the inside of our house and decided to talk a drive over to campus to walk around for a couple hours. It was sort of sad to see campus so empty and all the construction projects paused.

Then we got to the May 4 area and noticed how much cleaner and well-kept everything was. The buildings and grounds had clearly been powerwashed and there appeared to be an inordinate amount of brand new landscaping all around the historical areas. Probably thousands of dollars worth. Even though there was to be no on-campus commemoration activity this year.

In this time of budget cuts, taking 2, 5 percent of employees’ salaries away, forced furloughs and “Flashes (Not) Taking Care of Flashes,” it was refreshing to see the university still knows where its bread is buttered.

Also, I have been to campus frequently , walking dog. May 4 , area was spruced up anticipating national media . What I saw looked good. May 3, paid my respects at site along with many others. Campus police presence everywhere but they did not interact with any people present from my observation. They waved to me twice, as we went around campus.
Other days many grads on campus taking pictures in caps and gowns so campus looking nice a plus
I’m not sticking up for anyone in admin. But beautiful campus needs to be maintained.

I saw a comment on here that UB is the most financially sound of all MAC athletic departments, but I can’t find the comment. Not disagreeing, just wondering if that was in an article or where that was said or posted? I see UB only has 14 sports today, I thought that all D1 schools had to have 16 sports or more? UB has 6 men’s sports and 8 women’s sports. In comparison, KSU has 17 sports currently, 7 men and 10 women.

Comment came from me, story i saw in Buffalo paper or one of the news outlets there. Writer said Buffalo in better shape than most MAC programs. Likely his opinion more than fact. Not sure about your comment re 16 sport min ??

I know that Moody's has rated most higher education institutions as "negative" however KSU was rated as "stable". This is for the university as a whole.
