It didn’t seem like that Hoops from what I read a while back. Some guys are motivated differently and mature at different times. I surely didn’t have it all perfect at 18-19 years old. Hopefully he has the perfect coach for him and it’s his time. This is his chance to play ball and more importantly get an education.

I hope it's different, but it's a valid concern. He's had that chance twice already(once for a staff our coach was on)

Hopefully he realizes this is more than likely his last chance.

I'll take it.

What is a runoff waiver? Meaning he was ranoff from the team?

If so, and they agreed to it... I have concerns, given his history.

wonder if he quit on them like he did State the first time. Hope he's all in here, we need him

Its not a huge shock that he was “runoff.” He was suspended and it’s been reported that Steere and the new St Johns coaching staff did not see eye to eye for whatever reason. He was recruited to St Johns by their previous staff. It’s not everyday that 4 star guys play in the CAA. He has POTENTIAL to be a First Team CAA big. I think the risk is worth the reward.

So let's go through the history here, to make sure I'm tracking what you're saying...

1. Recruited to NC State - played in 1-2 games and transferred abruptly

2. Transferred to St. Johns - suspended by former staff then didn't see eye to eye with the new staff? That's two different coaching staffs if I read that correctly.

So, like everyone else, I'm hoping this turns into a success story. Just seems like A LOT of red flags here. He certainly has a huge chance for success here. Let's hope he takes advantage of it. I'm just not sure how folks around here so casually dismiss the red flags some of us are concerned about.

Just to clarify, he was suspended by the new staff only this past season. No issue with the previous staff.

I get what you are saying with the red flags. He is young and hopefully he has had time to think and realize this is probably his last chance to play for a D-1 basketball team.

Okay! Gotcha. I was wondering how that would occur with two different staffs and never playing for one if that were the case. Overall, to be honest, I think he'll be fine here at UNCW. In all likelihood he's more than aware this is likely his last shot to set himself up for basketball success and will tighten the screws. I like to wear my teal glasses (as 'Hoops put it), but I also am not going so far as to just assume the best all the time.

Regardless, I think we're all on the same sheet of music here. Hoping for some sort of a season and young Steere being a huge part of that.

RE: 2020-2021 Men's basketball roster.
Dodd was very good regardless y'all and people don't realize what he was able to do as a true freshman. Homeboy has some serious ups and timed up some key blocks, dunks, stick backs and free throws plus caroms in games that we went on to win. I really like Dodd's potential and I would love to see them play together against big teams in the NCAA's at times too. Both are very talented players. And yes, I'm expecting the NCAA's at some point in the next few years with the players we now have and a style that has proven successful.
