Pac 12 in preliminary discussions with the folks at Apple TV, who are interested in all Pac 12 content (including tier 1, 2, and 3). Not just digital rights.

How we watch tv in 2024 will be different that 2020. Moving totally to streaming service would be a pretty bold move for any conference or league. One of these providers (Netflix, Amazon, Apple TV, Google, etc) will make the plunge on sports rights, sooner or later.

The Pac-12 will get an eyebrow raising amount of money. No question they will leapfrog the B12 in 2023, and by a healthy margin.

The Pacific region is far more open to new media, and economically desperate to go there. Apple wont be the only player. This will be fascinating. (I do not think Larry Scott will be in charge in one year's time)

Totally Agree.... However for Apple TV this would be big... All the PAC12 diehards would switch...

For the PAC12 this would be even worse then what they have done thus far blundering thier TV deal thus far....

My first purchase was an Apple TV... Mediocre product as you couldn't add extra channels. Gave it to my son and bought a Roku, haven't looked back. That was about 5-6 years ago

There's two sides to the negotiations. Just because Apple TV wants all of the Pac-12's rights doesn't mean the Pac-12 has to give them all of their rights. The Pac-12 can offer second tier rights or 2nd/3rd to Apple TV and then Apple TV can then decide whether they'd rather have 2nd or 2nd/3rd or nothing. It also might depend on when the negotiations take place and where Apple TV is in terms of the streaming TV market. The Big Ten deal(s) will likely be done first and likely the NFL deals could be done. Will ESPN/FOX have that much money left and/or interest?

I want to clarify your post. When you are referring to Apple TV, you are referring to Apple TV+, the app.

While true, Apple has money to spend and is willing to sink big dollars to make its streaming service relevant. Hosting the Pac 12 may do this. Additionally, the Pac 12 Network and conference members already have the infrastructure built out. It really could be plug-and-play for Apple and the Pac 12 Network.

Apple TV and Apple TV+, the streaming service, are not the same. Apple TV+ is available on Roku.

Much like Youtube TV, the streaming cable television alternative, being compared to Youtube, Apple TV, the hardware, and Apple TV+, the streaming service, have challenges with brand awareness.

The attempt to make "+" a queue is also confusing (e.g. Disney+, ESPN+).

With the rollout of the next generation of towers (5G), there could be another shift in how we receive our downloads. Having a big screen at a tailgate may allow streaming from an app to watch a game. Where you get that game (ESPN+, Apple TV+, Youtube TV, etc...) may not be as important.

A question I have is how games could change. If the service does not have traditional commercials, could this change the game for the better by shortening the games?

If this works better, does the NFL or NBA or NHL, etc... become an app rather than the model we currently use?

Youtube TV is amazing. I cant imagine the other streaming products being any better.

CBS All Access, Apple TV+, Peacock (NBC's version), Starz, AMC, Crackle (Sony), etc... are all bit players looking for an audience. Big money is at play. This is the reason AT&T bought TimeWarner.

We are having a boon in quality programming. Sports will part of this eventually.

I'd bet the Big 12 would leap frog the Pac conference, again, in it's tier 1 and 2 deals after they finish negotiating.

Apple TV?!? It would be fun to see Udub, SC or Oregon complain about the media/CFP committee not watching the actual games when it comes to their teams.. You think the Pac is being outcast-ed right now with it's dead of a conference network channel?? Wait til they bring that to an Apple TV near you lol

The streaming wars are on going now but I highly doubt they are ready to mix in live sports with it anytime soon. Those streaming services would have no choice but to increase the monthly fee... by a lot to contend with Fox and ESPN right now. I think if anything you could see baby steps with these streaming companies, and watch them compete for tier 3 games. ESPN plus is doing that with the Big 12 and SEC network.
DAZN is struggling and netflix already said, thanks but no thanks to sports. Disney plus already has ESPN plus. Maybe FOX jumps into the fight with a FOX sports extra app..who knows.

A school like SC or Oregon could make a killing signing up it's Tier 3 with an Hulu or YouTube deal. Much better deal than it has with the Pac as of now for sure.

Yes, you are correct. Nobody was watching it before COVID-19 and they’re not even watching it now. If nobody is watching your product during this time, you are not likely to catch fire later. Adding the Pac-12, will not help them. It will only help fans of the Pac-12, as it will be much easier to get than the Pac-12 Network currently is.

Disney owns a controlling interest in Hulu. That is why the company offers Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for $12.99/month.

Additionally, Hulu offers a cable streaming alternative to YoutubeTV, SlingTV, and AT&T/Direct TV streaming service.

Hang on- It is going to get interesting as content gets thrown all over the place. Chances are that you will be switching services monthly depending on the content you want to watch.
