WMU gets roughly what... 70% of the budget from that?

Yes, take a look at the 18/19 budget, the General Fund pumps 19 million into it. That would be comprised of the student fees.

I NEVER want to lose a sport, but we're hemorrhaging money it appears, I'm just proposing ideas and I guess, getting negative ratings in the process? Huh. Is that a sign of respect around here? hahaha.

If you don't want to cut anything "academic" based, go for it. You won't be able to sustain even FCS football (unless you want to be a Delaware St I guess) & definitely not hockey.

I think some of the "academic" based items are just as worth cutting.

I don't see anything wrong w/ the football program getting 70% of its budget from tuition.

What we're seeing is the school just shrinking the budget overall. I am fine w/ this. Hopefully the virus crisis is over in the fall & the school can get back to operating as planned

Thats a legit hatchet to the budget. How many sports did they have? Wonder what the budget savings will be.

Actually, its probably less dramatic than appears at first blush. Not that these sports arent significant to some folks, but this is what I just read:

"Men’s and women’s fencing, men’s and women’s golf, women’s skiing, men’s and women’s squash, women’s equestrian, men’s indoor track and field, men’s outdoor track and field and men’s cross country will all transition to club status. Women’s sailing and coed sailing will transition from club to varsity status."

I doubt most students and alums will lose much sleep. Ivy league schools probably care about squash and fencing more than less "wine and cheese" institutions, but probably not a huge loss. and the coed sailors now get varsity jackets, so there is that.

They sponsored 38 sports and the Ivy League does not give athletic scholarships. They will now *only* sponsor 29 lol. Annual savings of $500,000.

Which is possibly being reallocated to other sports.
Only Stanford and Harvard offer more varsity sports.
Brown would be one of the last schools I'd want to see my kids graduate from.

If WMU wants to save football, they have to seriously consider cutting hockey.

Central got a two year waiver to stay at FBS while only having 5 men's sports.

Dear bronconick,
Why have rules of compliance? Both the NCAA and the MAC are allowing Central to flaunt what should be standard operating procedures.
How long does it take to figure out what men's team you want, to get back to compliance? A month maybe.
